You might be pregnant or you might have diabetes. People with diabetes usually have to urinate often.

There are anumber of things that can cause this. First of all, a bladder infection needs to be ruled out. Oftentimes as we age, bladder infections have symptoms of urgency and frequency rather than burning or pain.

If there's no bladder infection, the next thing to look at is the acid content, caffeine contend and hot spicy ingredients in your foods and beverages. Especially as we age, these become more problematic because the protective lining of the bladder thins as we age. ANd some people are just constitutionally sensitive to these things. To test this out, go on a strict elimination diet for a week.

Third, reducing your fluid intake to reduce frequency causes your urine to be more concentrated. If you're already sensitive to the foods mentioned above and then have concentrated urine as well, it can be extremely irritating to your bladder. Try to drink approx 2 qts of non caffeinated, non alcoholic liquid each day.

4th. If you've had this problem for some time, you've probably developed counterproductive behaviors to try to manage the frequency. You'll need to retrain your bladder to calm down at your command and change your toileting techniques so that you go to the bathroom when you DON'T have urge. Don't go to the bathroom when you have the urge to go. Calm it down and wait till urge passes.

If you decrease your fluid intake and eat the things that irritate your bladder and go to the bathroom when you feel that first sensation of the urge to urinate ... your problems will continue to get worse.

Lastly, in addition to the possibility of a bladder infection, there are other medical problems that can cause urgency. You really should ask for a check up by your medical care provider. If it's not a disease process, but rather a problem of weakened muscles or irritated, Over-active bladder, you can probably retrain your bladder back to normal without medications or surgery.

Hope this helps. ;-) J

Two things:
1. Does it hurt when you pee? You could have a urinary tract infection, anti biotics such as macro dantin and levaquin heal this
2. Are you diabetic? You may be throwing off sugar in your urine.

That's how I found out I had diabetes. You really need to see a doctor. When you pee it will be clear and that is bad. You will have a sweet smell to your breath and you will have drymouth.
