He definetly believes in God, but doesn't give any specifics on what religion he is.

It's funny, but the greatest scientific minds (Einstein, Newton, Galileo, Muhammad ibn Musa al-Kwarizmiall, Fazari, and even Charles Darwin who studied to be a clergyman) followed a faith, and yet today, many people believe science is anti-religious.

Sounds like Hawking is at least sometimes an Agnostic (and sometimes he may be an Atheist)...

Some of his quotes can be understood as being open to the existence of God (and alternatively open to the non-existence of God).

A relevant note: Please be aware that there is scientific and intellectual evidence for the existence of God (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/godsci/evidence.htm)

Cordially,
John

He believes in God... here are two excerpts from one of his public lectures that touched on the subject:

------------------------------

"... it seems that Einstein was doubly wrong when he said, 'God does not play dice.' Not only does God definitely play dice, but He sometimes confuses us by throwing them where they can't be seen..."

"... Thus the future of the universe is not completely determined by the laws of science, and at its present state, as Laplace thought. God still has a few tricks up his sleeve..."

--Stephen Hawking.

Peace be with you!

I don't know; I've never seen anything in the various bios I've read about him.

But really, what does it matter with a mind like that?
