She has seen another stolen shotgun in his home, he sells steroids illegally, Contracts with no license, his kids are not registered in school (and are now as illiterate as he) which also means no immunizations, he uses a false SSN (his young son's), and has not paid taxes in years. Will the local police be willing to search his home to recover my gun, or for evidence of his other criminal activity? If not, what can be done about all this? CPS has done nothing. Suggestions?

It depends on the officer you get.

In every state, posession of a firearm by a paroled felon is a violation of that felon's parole. If found with a firearm, that parole would be revoked. In most states, a convicted felon cannot own a firearm until his record is expunged or corrected. That RARELY happens.

If you report that he has stolen your registered weapon, they most likely will act on the report. The police will contact the parole officer if there is one or contact the felon himself if there is not, and it will go from there.

Cheers.

OK, as a California cop I'm seeing a couple of red flags here. The felon is probably with (in a biblical sense) your ex- or soon-to-be ex-wife so the gun was likely not stolen. However, if the other stuff is true, here's what can work:
1. Forget the FBI, unless you can establish crimes are taking place across state lines. This is a local matter.
2. Contact the School District about the kids, because CPS must've already investigated and found "No Cause". Remember you have no authority, but are only a concerned citizen.
3. Contact the Law Enforcement Agency that has jurisdiction where he lives. Explain your suspicions to an officer. If you know this guy's name and date of birth he may run him to see if he's on parole. If he's still on parole, contact the Parole Officer.

ABOVE ALL - Be nice to the people you talk to, don't push too hard, or get whiney because in my line of work you'll just come across like a JEALOUS JACKASS, WHO'S JUST MAD HIS EX IS GETTING BANGED BY A DIRTBAG!
At least that's what ten years in Law Enforcement has taught me.

Did your wife file a report with the Police for the stolen gun?

First of all, I would advise your wife to stay away from those premises. Then I would say you should report the theft of your gun to the police, and let them take things from there. This guy sounds like real trouble: I would stay as far away from him as possible.

I'm sure that the police would be interested in this case if attention is drawn to it... just bang on a couple of doors.
