My 12 year old daughter's hair is thinning really badly around the edges. Does anyone have any suggestions or is anyone aware of hair care products (for black hair) to help reverse this problem.

Thank you in advance for your time and assistance. : )

Note: She currently has a perm and she has worn french braids and pony tails in the past. I try to keep her with a wrap to cover the edges but it seems the thinning is spreading.

First of all ...Pllllleeeeassseee STOP perming this Child's hair! Her hair is probably over processed and overworked. A lot of pulling with braids, ponytails will definitely cause breakage and thinning ESPECIALLY around the edges and especially if she uses harsh Gels and doesn't moisturize and deep condition.

I suggest using products made by ORGANIC ROOT STIMULATOR they have an array of products from shampoo to help dry itchy scalp and conditioner for hair loss. And if you must perm...they have perm that is NO LYE (of course it still contains all the harsh chemicals that dry black hair out to begin with) but the formula is the most gentle I've seen.

I also suggest using a homemade deep conditioner that i got from my grandmother : Warm 5 Table spoons of Extra Virgin 100% Pure Olive Oil and 3 Table Spoons of Pure Honey about 35 Seconds in the microwave...massage it onto her scalp and hair and let it sit for about 30 minutes..then rinse. Do this 2 to 3 times a month and her hair should be soft and more manageable and her scalp won't be as dry because the Olive oil is very light but penetrating.

Hope this Helps

In my salon the most popular hair care products for black hair is PHYTO, a French product made form a 100% natural plant extracts. The product range is huge and covers areas such as dry hair, damaged hair, weak hair, thinning hair, hair loss and much more. In france it is considered a medicated products and is sold off the shelf in chemist. In the UK it is not so well known but is very popular amongst a number of top Black British Hairdressers including multi British Hairdressers of the year nominee Errol Douglas

---the problem can be serveral things...one major factor can be wearing tight braids or ponytails which thins out the hair on the edges.
---another issue that can also contribute to this problem as well is "greasing" the scalp with heavy, pore-clogging pretroleum based products...big NO NO!!...products that contain petroleum or mineral oil and putting it directly on the scalp clogs the pores and the scalp which retards hair growth, especially if applied around the edges of the hairline!!
---"grease" or hair dressings can be applied onto the hair, but just AWAY FROM THE SCALP...if you want to apply grease onto your daughter's hair, try an oil that can be easily absorbed into the scalp such as jojoba oil
---if you want your daughter's hair to become very healthy and strong, treat the hair like silk- be gentle with it, comb the hair from the ends upward and try using an all natural boar brush which distributes the scalp's natural oils throughout the hair..good luck!!

If she wears braids and ponytails too tight, that can cause SERIOUS thinning and breakage. Also, have her checked for any other medical problems that can cause her hair to thin. Take her to a beautician that can give specific treatments so her hair can begin to regrow. If you live near a beauty supply store, there are products such as hair food, shampoos and conditioners, and other products that can help. Good luck, sweetie!

Does she wear braids or ponytails? If so, that could be the cause of the hair breakage. I suggest she stop wearing the braids and ponytails. She should wrap her hair in a silk scarf at night to prevent further breakage.

tight braids and ponytails and hairextention are good for once in a while....if her hair is always braided it pulls the hair back, thinning it outwhile the scalp gets weaker and loose.. give her lots of protein...give raw egg 2-3 times a week to drink and you should see a difference and try rogain at walmart....there is something called hair mayonaisse at walgreens..its in a short jar and the mayo is yellow..give here loose ponytails and dont blow dry or pull hair..and if you go to walmart at the hair section they have a little section for her kind of hair along with thickning shampoo...it could of been the perm too...and like she said(below me) try sallys beauty supply.

cococut oil in thick hair dressing like blue magic or any type of thick hair dressing that has a petroleum base and has coconut oil in it ok --this has always worked for normal growing blk hair
that starts to thin, gently massage a thin layer of the coconut oil scented hair dressing, you don't have to use alot of it at once ok,
but use the entire jar up ok and your daughter will have thick long hair by the time the coconut oil scented hair dressing jar is empty for sure again ok darling
