It all comes down to quality and what you perceive as quality for value. Both are nice, but Bailey's uses milk and cream. I understand that Carolan's uses a powdered milk based cream. An open bottle of Bailey's will last longer if it is slightly chilled. Carolan's tends to clump up after a month of of being open. If it doesnt take you that long to kill a bottle of Irish Creme, then it doesnt matter. But at least you have a few more facts to make a better decision.
IMHO, Bailey's is still a better buy.

Bailey's Original is a classic, and worth the extra 10 bucks if you can afford it. Carolan's is good, though. I like Bailey's because you can taste the Irish Whiskey more, and I love that flavor. If saving money is really important to you, Carolan's is a decent drink. Bailey's also has some flavored Irish Cream Liqueuers, but they aren't that good.

Carolans is good indeed. I have tried many different irish creams and they each have their own unique taste. Baileys is no better than most of the cheaper stuff, you pay extra for the advertising costs/name. You will notice a lot of people recommend it, proof that advertising works. Also, the fact that it costs more makes it have more perceived value to people who don't know any better. It is the same reason Bacardi rum is the top seller even tho there are much better choices at the same price or less, people go with a safe choice that they saw in an ad of heard about from some yahoo poster online that saw it in an ad. Not everyone has the good fortune to have access to the recommendations of a connoisseur.

I would have to say that is depends on what you are using this as. I mean I drink some Bailey just as itself after coffee and I wouldn't drink Carolan's that way. IF I ammixing it with other things say in a drink well then Carolans is fine. If it is in a shot with a not so potent liquor then I would say Baileys due to the overpowering taste that Carolans has.
Money does buy better taste some times.

Carolans any day - reasonable price and creamier. Baileys taste is too strongly alcoholic for my choice.
