I don't know if it can cause health problems.
But it's not good for you whatsoever. Like they always say.. if you were ever stranded on an island or out in the sea water, don't ever drink it no matter how thirsty you get. Just go and drink a bunch of water to level out the amount of salt in your body right now.

It's not going to kill you unless you drank half a tub full or some other high amount (in which case you body would go into shock from the high level of salt). Drink plenty of fluids to flush the excess salt out of your system and avoid any high salt foods too, for a while (I'd say salt but salt is in pretty much everything nowadays making it really hard to do so).

And in regards to beachwater being bad for you....it's not the actual salt that makes it bad (although excess is not a good thing) it's the bugs, etc that's in it that makes it bad for you.

Although excessive amounts of nearly any substance is unhealthy, saltwater isn't necessarily bad for you. As a vocalist and an athlete, I am very appreciative of salt and its positive effects on my body. Gargling warm salt water helps to soothe the throat and to kill bacteria in the esophagus, which is beneficial to singers because it produces better sound quality furing their performances. Salt also helps to rehydrate the body during exercise. This is why power drinks such as Gatorade contain so much salt. It gives energy to athletes.

Not only is drinking saltwater bad for you, but the water along beaches can have lots of human-harming bacteria in it. Quite often it has germs from human fecal matter that gets dumped into the water, plus junk from factories, etc.
