peeps are what little baby chickens do, and what perverts do in the dark behind the bushes outside your bedroom window. Why not ppls instead. I mean it is even easier to type?

Well the abbreviation I used for the word abbreviation is so much more of a grown up sounding word you guys. I mean peeps is just little kid sounding to me. I am not be a jerk here I really want to know who started the peeps thing if anyone knows. It is not something I would think just evolved on here, someone used it first.
And I got no idea what kind of place the dude is talking about for the other abb. so I wouldn't get the two mixed up, along with about a million others of us.

Oh God I'm just so OLD (*.*) I don't use either. I felt hungry when I read 'peep' and saw all the little editable dancing marshmallow chicks dancing around my head all 'peeping'. Then when I saw 'abb' I thought the question was about your abdominal. Then when I read 'ppl', I don't know what I thought, but it wasn't people. I just use the full word. People for People. Abbreviation for Abbreviation.

I think Lin explained it pretty well, peeps not the yucky marshmallow kind is a slang word used for people.."my people" it's more commonly used in the black community, I personally don't use it because I don't use a lot of slangs that much but I much rather hear that than everybody calling each other the "N" word because I always consider it degrading but some people think it's a form of "endearment" or "brotherly love."

Peeps are small marshmallow candies, sold in the United States, which are shaped into baby chickens, rabbits, and other animals. Peeps are primarily used to fill Easter baskets. They are made from marshmallow, sugar, gelatin, and carnauba.
"Peeps" is also fairly recent (mid-1990s onward) slang for "friends" (derived from the word "people"), as in "what's up, my peeps?" Unlike the otherwise similar "bros", the usage of "peeps" is rarely, if ever, singular, but has broadened slightly to encompass more general senses of "people" or "persons", as in "there sure are a whole bunch of peeps in this joint."
Peeps was also used in a catchphrase made popular by British comedian Harry Enfield in the 80s - he created a character, Stavros, who was the proprietor of a fast food shop. Stavros would introduce himself by saying "Hello peeps!". As the character spoke in fractured English he used 'peeps' in place of people.

I do not like internet abbreviations but with the pace of world, yes I am forced to use them. But I use ppl in this case.

I tend to agree with you. "Peeps" appears to be very current slang term based on the first syllable in people. Using only the first syllable in many words would lead to a great deal of confusion is determining which ONE WORD would among numerous options with the same first syllable was actually meant to be used in the first place.

"Peeps" is also inconsistent because an individual is not a "peep" ... it's a person (and we don't commonly call them "pers" on the internet).

You are not alone in your question. I have seen quite a few uses of "ppl" in internet, IM, and other shorthanded text.

It's not an abbreviation. It's urban slang. Here it is in a sentence:

Yo, me and my peeps is chillin at my home boy's shinizle, ayite
