In Lamens terms...

Scientology is a bunch of unscientific practices that are meant to make you into a more able person by using the techniques mapped out by L Ron Hubbard in the 1950s. Hubbard was a sci-fi writer with a failed military career who doesn't have the higher education to have come up with any new scientific theories, indeed he didn't even know what the scientific method is.

Hubbard said clears would be more able than other people, with clarity of thought, perfect memories and healthier bodes. So far there hasn't been any great works or advances or achievements by these 'special' individuals. OTs are meant to have even more powers, but again have never demonstrated anything.

The effects of scientology have never been demonstrated, especially the OT powers. The one study that was done showed it didn't help (found at clambake.org)

So Scientology is unscientific, unproven, created by someone without the proper credentials,

In real lamens terms IMO:
The Church of Scientology is a dangerous vicious cult that is out to gain adherents and take their money.
See this website for details:
http://www.clambake.org

Or if you like videos http://www.xenutv.com
Here you can see scientologists speak and act for yourself all caught on camera.

It is certainly not accepting of other religions as the R6 implant taught in OT3 tells you that Jesus was an implant as were the other religions. Don't pay $360,000 to find this out, look it up on the internet. So foxtel please don't spread this misinformation.

Scientology is a Religion that offers parishioners an Applied Philosophy - meaning that they give you tech that can be applied to day-to day activities which will help you make the most correct decisions and improve your communicative skills. Scientology is non-denominational so therfore will coincide quite happily with other religious beliefs.

Scientology is a system of beliefs and practices created by American pulp fiction[1][2] and science fiction [3] author L. Ron Hubbard in 1952 as a self-help philosophy. By 1960 Hubbard had redefined it as a "religion by its basic tenets".[4] The name "Scientology" is also sometimes used to refer to the Church of Scientology, which is the largest organization promoting the belief system of Scientology

Some central beliefs of Scientology:

A person is an immortal spiritual being (termed a thetan) who possesses a mind and a body.
Through the Scientology process of "auditing", one can free oneself of "engrams" and "implants" to reach the state of "Clear", and after that, the state of "Operating Thetan". Each state is said to represent recovering the native spiritual abilities of the individual, and to confer dramatic mental and physical benefits.
The thetan has lived through many past lives and will continue to live beyond the death of the body.
A person is basically good, but becomes "aberrated" by moments of pain and unconsciousness in his or her life.
What is true for you is what you have observed yourself. No beliefs should be forced as "true" on anyone. Thus, the tenets of Scientology are expected to be tested and seen to either be true or not by Scientology practitioners.
Psychiatry and psychology are evil and abusive. [21]
Humans retain many emotional problems caused by early stages of evolution (see Scientology History of Man).
Scientology claims to offer an exact methodology to help a person achieve awareness of his or her spiritual existence and better effectiveness in the physical world. "Exact" methods of spiritual counseling are taught and practiced which are claimed to enable this change. According to the Church, the ultimate goal is to get the soul (thetan) back to its native state of total freedom, thus gaining control over matter, energy, space, time, thoughts, form, and life. This freed state is called Operating Thetan, or OT for short.

do you mean laymens terms?

also: scientology is a religion based on the assumption that alien souls were trapped in Earth volcanos and released when humans were made. the souls of aliens got in our bodies and are called "thetans". you really really think i'm making this up, but i'm not. there's also something about a space plane that looks like a DC10 without propellers (also note that L Ron Hubbard, the founder, is freaking on crack because DC10s don't even have propellers.)

thanks

Some old guy said, "Hey, I'll create a religion, I'm just as good as Jesus and those other guys!" So he did. That's about it. I'm VERY TOLERANT in most cases, but Scientology and Satanism are the only religions I think are a load of bs.

that is debated on what there genuinely beliefs are. Many critics say there conception are in accordance to Sci-fi topics jointly with Alien overlords and what no longer. From the Scientology website it appears that evidently like they have undemanding beliefs in souls and doing good issues on your soul. i do no longer comprehend a lot more desirable than that.

Wikipedia has a pretty good synapsis that is easy to understand. Basically, scientology is a "self-help" group that believes that psychological help actually is harmful. It's more complecated than that, obviously, but that is a one sentence description.
