This little phrase we all use or hear every day but depending on where you start from either zero or the given number your answer will differ greatly. So what is the correct starting point to calculate the answer ? Next time someone says it is twice as much or they have twice as many be aware of the word play.

Twice as much would be $ 100.

You are confusing "two times as much" with "two times more".

In the first case, it is 2X. In the second case it is 3X (the original X plus 2X more = 3X).
