well i would take the cat to get a flea dip. and i have found that the best thing to get rid of fleas in the carpet is to buy a bottle of sergents flea and tick shampoo for dogs (yeah that nasty smelling green stuff) mix it just thin enuf to be sprayed out of a spray bottle and strurate the carpet and surounding areas. the spry and dust you buy for this purpose can work but this just works better for me. no need to get it back up just leave it in the carpet to protect from further infestations. I would not advise trying to give the cat a flea bath on your own thing can get quite bloody!!!

Ya, fleas are really hard to get rid of! Believe me, They came back twice. First you need to clean your house. Make sure you sweep the floor like at least every 2 days! Use whatever the vet says to use for the home, Cause it will be the best! One thing you might want to think about is terminex. For the home but you have to be gone for a number of hours and also your pets have to be gone. Give your cat a bath regulary and clean the area they sleep like every 2-3 days! Also for the cats use what the vet says! My husband likes the shampoo that he got from the vet thats for fleas and there is a pill you can give them that is suppose to make the fleas drop from the cat after some time. Talk to your vet! See what they suggest to use cause some stuff you get at a local store can not be good for your cat and could cause problems. I hoped that helped and good luck!

All of those answers are DUMB and WRONG! (Except the answer above mine) First of all, Advantix is NOT labeled for cats. There is actually a warning on the box to keep it away from cats!! Second of all, bathing just removes the adult fleas. There are still eggs and larvae ready to hatch. This is pointless.
Therefore...
The only thing that works on the cat is Frontline Plus. Buy it from the vet office and apply once a month EVERY month.

Get Frontline for the cat; over time, the fleas on the carpet will jump on the cat and die. You need to use it every month during flea season.

I recommend you get Advantix from your vet for the cat. As for the carpet, just go to Wal-Mart and get some Hartz flea powder for carpets. Sprinkle it on, leave it for 30 minutes, and then vacuum it up. Do so AFTER your cat has been given his/her flea medication.

Use ADVANTAGE (not advantix - that's for dogs only) that you purchase from the vet. It's a little expensive, but you will not need to use anything else to treat the carpet. The advantage will take care of the problem for you. DO NOT USE THE OVER THE COUNTER HARTZ DROPS!! IT HAS BEEN KNOWN TO CAUSE SEVERE REACTIONS IN CATS!!! You'll be quite satisfied with the Advantage and so will your kitty!!

in case you employ frontline from the vet then you definately cant provide your cat a bathtub for a certin era of time. you want to vaccum the homestead commonly used to save the fleas down. possibly placed out white bowls with water in them because the fleas are atracted to mild shades and then they leap in the bowl and drowned. If not you've gotten to spray your position and also you will get that from a vet also.
