Well, you may never fully understand a cat completely but if you get to know a cat. You will know, their personality and everything else about them. Sometimes i know what my cat wants just by looking at them. Because i know them so well! .

I understand my cats automatically. I also understand my granny's cats. Her cat insane says "Door" verry regularly. Baby kittens don't know how to talk verry well yet so all they can say is, "milk" untill they learn a little more. Most average cats say, "Food," alot. You just have to listen to the way they are meowing, what they are doing, what they are looking at, where their ears are (pinned back, attently forward, moving around), and what their body is doing (feet spread out ready to run-scared and unsure of the situation, back arched-scared and trying to look bigger, rolled over on back- content with it's surroundings).

you pay attention to it. they my talk to you in many ways with a look with a action, even there meowing is telling you something. Althou i actually had a cat once who could say a few human words. Mainly MAMA it was said with a kitty accent but was not said in Cat !! it kinda freaked me out the first time. I got him from my mother in law, she dropped him off at my house and a few days later he was sitting on my porch railing and when i walked by he looked at me all puzzled and said plain as day "wheres mama" it bout floored me. i looked at him and said what did you just say and he again repeated "wheres mama" I almost cryed i picked him up and loved on him and told him I was his new mama that the other one wasnt coming back. i put him down and he scamperd off. for about 6 months about once a month when ever i fed the animals he'd look at me and say "mama" after a while when she never came back nither did he. He would also say NO and Yes. I have a friend who taught her dog to say "words" too but it never came out as clear as that cat. But most cats just talk to us in Cat. lol

My cat when he is hungry meows or rubs against my leg. If the door is closed, and I offer food first and he ignores it then he wants to go outside.

In my house its easy, if they are by a door, they want you to open it, even though we have a perfectly good cat flap at the back, any other time it means 'feed me'

Cats are slimy and slewy creatures. I have always found it difficult to understand them and adjust to them too.

cats have their own body language...its just a matter of observing the cat as it does its thing....swishing tails are a bad sign...its angry..ears laid flat - scared or angry.....try blinking at the cat....he/she will blink right back at you...its a cats hello!
rolling onto their back is a bit harder...it is a sign of submission...theyre exposing their vunerable side to you...but some cats do it to trap you...you go to stroke their stomach, and wham...claws and teeth! (but thats cats humour!)
the dali lama wrote a book a few years ago about his life with his pet siamese cats....he believes his cats can astrally travel, and he speaks to them in his dreams.....personally, although its a good read, i prefer my method ;)
