we cannot be 100% perfect. But we need to strive to be perfect. the efforts that count.
Matthew 5:48
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

That is called a contradiction. The Bible says to be righteous, and also that it is impossible to be righteous. Well, if it's impossible, then why tell us to do it?? If you read an instruction book that told you two different ways to connect part A to part C, and neither one of them worked, would you trust it? Of course not, yet people tell us the Bible is an instruction book from God and that we should all trust what it says.

Okies, here's how that works. Everything you do, all your actions, you should do them righteously ... deliberate, on purpose, always, do what's right.
But no way, no matter how hard you try, are you going to hit the mark everytime. There will always be some little letter of the law you didn't follow; you cheated, you lied, you did some little thing that was not right. That's why no one can be truly all the way 100% righteous if they follow the law.
But Jesus gives us grace, and says as long as you try, as long as you put your best effort forward, He'll cover the stuff you get wrong with His grace.
Do those verses make more sense? I hope so :)

Definition of Righteous (from Merriam Webster's Dictionary)
Main Entry: righ·teous
Pronunciation: 'rI-ch&s
Function: adjective
Etymology: alter. of earlier rightuous, alteration of Middle English rightwise, rightwos, from Old English rihtwIs, from riht, noun, right + wIs wise
1 : acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin
2 a : morally right or justifiable b : arising from an outraged sense of justice or morality
3 slang : GENUINE, GOOD
synonym see MORAL
- righ·teous·ly adverb
- righ·teous·ness noun
Think of it in these terms: we try to be righteous, but the reason that no one is truly righteous is that we cannot be perfect. We are humans and flawed. As Christians, we are saved by God's grace (God's Richness At Christ's Expense) which means that God saved us, we cannot save ourselves. It is not possible for us to be perfect.
But God asks for us to be righteous in all that we do because his goal is for us to walk in His love and to follow all concepts that would stem from love. But we go back into our human nature which means that we get in the way of being righteous. We get angry and lose our temper, we say things we should not, we do things that are wrong, but God's grace allows forgiveness, which means if we truly repent (repent = willing to change our ways) we experience God's forgiveness (forgiveness = life change).

We can not be righteous through our own strength. However through Christ, we can overcome sin and be considered righteous. As King David sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheeba and having her husband killed, but God still considered him to be perfect. David had sinned, but he had also confessed and repented, so that God was able to cleanse him.

Be as righteous as you can. We are only responsible for sins we knowingly commit. Try to live the best you can, it will all work out.

It's impossible to be perfectly righteous, but we should strive to be. Our righteousness is in Christ, and not of ourselves. Thank God.

In and of our ownselves it's impossible. But that's where accepting Jesus comes in! Once you accept Him into your life, He makes us righteous before God.

It says in the Bible that no one can be without sin does that mean we should just give up and commit sins.
No, we should never give up. We might not be able to be perfect, but we can strive to be as close as we can get.
