The present progresses from the past. Things wouldn't be the way they are today if things weren't the way they were in the 70s. It's always easy to look back on a time period and only remember the good things. You want a return to the time of the oil crises, of the war in Vietnam, of the rise of militant Islam and the hostage crisis in Iran, of Watergate? There have always been "murders, rapes and adultery."
Plus, your facts are wrong. In 2004, there were 167 more murders than in 1970, an increase of about 1%, despite an overall population increase of about 87,000,000, or 43%. In the same time, rape increased 2.4 times, but this is a far cry from "10 times the murders, rapes and adulter." The rates of some crimes have increased while others have decreased. There's no evidence that the present day is any worse than the 70s.

Are you joking me? Where do you live? Crime has been steady for the last 10 years, and back in the 70's crime was at some of its highest. Its just more glorified now, because of massive globalization.
Also like to point out, Cities are getting larger soo the small town feel is bound to be lost. If you have a need for that feeling then go move to a smaller town? This is just an assumption because I dont know where you live.
good luck

It is the me generation. Everyone wants to know what is in it for them. It is mostly all take and no give. Sad but true. There are still some people out there that do care about others, but all the others are making it difficult.
sexylilgirl...You are right about not knowing what a difference you can make. Whenever someone does something nice, like holding the door, I am sure to look them in the eye and say thank you. Some days it is the littlest kind gesture that can get me through the day.

Those tree-hugging hippies left a legacy of broken marriages, illegitimate children, broken health from drugs and alcohol and many of them died or committed suicide. They were not the good old days. Every day we live are "the good days'" which God has given us. There are many good people yet today, I like to believe I am one of them. We do volunteer work, donate money to worthy causes, help our neighbors, feed people and generally serve others in any way we can. We are the church members, believers in Jesus and follow His example in helping our fellowman. I wonder where you are looking for good people. I know lots of them. I understand why you feel the way you do from all the bad news we are inundated with each day, and I know many terrible things are happening. But, remember, you don't hear about the good things, only the headline-grabbing bad.
Best wishes in your search.

Everybody is out for themselves more than ever. I think that we should go even further back to the 40's or something because there still was alot of discontent in the 70's. Back in the 40's or at least the mid-30's our nation still retained its innocence.

Those might have been perceived by you to have been the good days, but who do you think ois doing the murder and rape today? The LOVE generation has killed many people and shown a definite dislike and disrespect for many people. We are a sad, sad race.

I'm not that way. I still hold open the door for a stranger and I still smile at any one who ever looks. The world needs someone to make an effort. You never know it could change someone. We all need someone to be nice to them and I love this question. If you want to talk about it feel free to contact me.
