Is basic training in all the branches of the military the same? I know that the marines provide a higher quality of self defence/survival training than then Army/Navy, as they are the first into battle. How does the Coast Guard training compare to other Branches? I mean, they are homeland security, so they should have the highest training. They help keep America safe!
ps. Sorry if i'm repeating a question, I'm only 16, and don't have so experience on military, altough would like to join Coast Guard.

I don't mind how hard Basic training is, I'd just like to know how it compares to others. As they say, pain is weakness leaving the body;

It is close to Army, small differences
Physical test requires
60 second 29 push ups
60 second 38 sit ups
1.5 mile 12.51 seconds

Back Float
Tread water for 5 minutes
Jump off 5' platform & swim 100 meters

My favorite is the Commander laying coin on site of rifle in laying, standing or kneeling positions & you have to keep the coin on site for 30-60 minutes or the dread correction.

Sounds like a good training system to me & lasts 8 weeks. My daughter's friend is in Coast Guard & he is a changed young man.

Usual no smoking, 5am-10pm days, 10 minute meals

I believe they get the same basic training as they do in the Air Force and Navy and every other branch, either way you look at it, basic training will be hard, so dont try to work your way around it. Its good that you're considering to join the military though, I'm proud.

I cannot speak to you about the Coast Guard. I served four years in the Air Force from 1994-1998, and the training is focused on classroom instruction, weapons, physical fitness and military history. The jobs in the Air Force are the best when you wish to return to civilian life.

Now, for the Coast Guard, I believe their training is quite intensive, 12 weeks maybe, with a lot of water activities. Good luck to you and I am proud that you wish to serve your country. I wish more men and women did.

I leave for boot in the coast guard in sept. I know they have a video about their boot camp and what it is going to be like. So if you really want to know. Call you recruiter and talk to one of them. They should be able to show answer you any questions. If you really want to know contact me after Dec. I'll be able to tell you how it is like.

www.about.com is really good for looking up this information. Just use their search feature to look up the training of the branch of your choice.
