The operating system files should be with the disks that came with your system. They are usually called system restore or something like that. Just follow the instructions on the CD to reformat the hard drive. Remeber that once you reformat the drive, you will errase all of the information from the computer. And I mean all, music, videos, bookmarks and so on.

There might be a away to repair some files if you know what ones are damaged and you can get them off of an other PC.

I used to do this back on my windows 98 PC. But from what I know its very hard and maybe imposable on XP? Don't know?

I had that problem once with an earlier version of windows. On the reinstalls it always takes a re-install disk. I could not find mine either. Luckily, a friend of mine had an "Emergency backup disk" for windows and let me use it to re-install. Do you have any friends like that you can call?

You can't.

Also, you are better off re-installing Windows instead of repairing it.

Get a FREE copy of KNOPPIX. It works from your CD drive, like a hard drive. Great for emergencies and corrupt hard drives.
