Not all immigrants are illegal.

Sometimes they are talking about all legal and illegal immigration. For example if they want to minimize the cost and drain on our services, they will lump the benefits from all 'immigrants' including the highly skilled legal immigrants (like movie directors) together. The economic picture is somewhat better that way.

Other times they are trying frantically to spread the notion that it is not polite to mention that these people committed a crime.

That is a notion I don't buy into, although I can certainly see why it would be convenient for pro-illegals if we did adopt that point of view.

Most immigrants from Mexico are "illegal" not legal. That is why there is such a huge debate happening right now. I'm personally tired of hearing the USA is a melting pot...all of us immigrated here. Yeah, that is the truth, but our ancestors were legal and learned English...they didn't expect others to learn Polish, Italian, Scottish, Irish etc. They were still able to keep their various heritages alive, without their squabbling about it. They also taught their children English...they didn't put strain on an already fouled up school system, and force teachers to learn other languages. They also didn't force the job market to expect potential job candidates to learn their language in order to be hired. And there were no "press 2 for Italian, press 3 for Irish, press 4 for German" in order to speak with a representative for a bill or service. Countless millions of dollars are spent on illegal immigrants in our hospitals, and they come here and get on welfare and are draining our system that was put in place for people who were in need for only a short period of time, not welfare for lifers. It's disgraceful...the illegals need to go. And the legals need to make an effort to "fit in" as all the immigrants from other countries did many years ago.

Immigrant is someone who have migrated from their place to another place.

It could be done legally as most of them do by getting an appropriate visa like student visa, work visa, business visa, tourist visa etc.

People coming into another country without a valid visa are illegqal immigrants.

Even if ur visa expires and does not go back you are an illegal immigrant.

So the newspaper would have been talkin about some ppl who are there legally in its report hence the word illegal is missing.

because if newspapers were to put illegal in front of immigrant they know that many people views would be negative. I for know what they are talking about no more how it is write it is still the same if they are undocumented workers "illegal", guess workers "illegal", expired visas "illegal" so no matter how they say it its still the same. They are here illegal.

I just had to write again to give (shannon b) five stars she hit it out of the park.

What you should be asking yourself is why you see immigrant in the newspaper when discussing individuals who have no legal right to be here. It used to be that they were referred to as illegal aliens but now we are calling them immigrants like they should be allowed to stay here. This appears to be one way the media has changed how we discuss this issue. I can't say that I am pleased that the media is playing word games with us by referring to people who are doing something wrong with a more flattering term.

Because it is politically incorrect to mention it. Many newspapers are using the euphemism "newly arrived immigrants" rather than illegal immigrants.

Because most news organizations are liberal leaning and they believe if they put "illegal" in front of immigrant when they are covering illegal immigrants it will galvanize people against illegal immigrants.

The mainstream media is out of effing control man. I cannot stand to read the newspaper or watch the news. It is so overproduced and slanted. I find that AM talk radio is the only source for unslanted information.
