Most likely they receive disability and someone comes in and helps them, or someone that loves them does it for them. And I'm sure they do care how they smell and what they look like. Have you ever done something that you felt you went past the point of return? I think some obese people may feel this way, and so they give up. Food is a comfort for many that feel so lonely, and gaining excess fat around the body becomes a shield of protection from those that can hurt by their cruel words or actions. There is something beautiful in everyone and maybe if we looked for that in all people and told that person you might put a spark in their lives and who knows, that person just might get the confidence to realize their is a way back.
Just my thoughts. Obese people are human too with feelings

Luckily there are several tools one can use to assist in staying clean as a supersized person. I weigh close to 700lbs and can still shower myself for the most part utilizing extended handled sponges, and a sturdy shower stool. Also, a moveable shower head/hose helps a lot.

If they felt like, and with some help, I suppose that they could do sponge baths, but when its gone so far that your morbidly obese they probably don't care what they look or smell like.

Actually, you bunch of morons - we obese people still have feelings.
Some of us are obese through illness and lack of mobility.

I can't shower so I bed bath everyday. I have a special toilet that washes and dries me when I use it.

I really don't know, but why do people become so obese they can't shower, when i'm 375 and hardly able to walk, i'm going to stop myself, you know...i'm sure it just hits a point where youy decide to just say stop and quit gaining weight.

I just think it's cool that everytime they go poo, they have to jump in the shower to "wipe"..it's completely appalling.
