i am currently in nz wanting to travel back to the uk for a holiday, my british passport went thru the washing machine and is now poo. when i apply for my new passport do i need to inform nz immigration? or will all my relevent visas etc be automatically put on my new passport? or will the britsh embassy sort this out??

I don't see how the British Embassy will know you need a NZ visa unless you tell them you do. To them, you are on your way 'home'.

However, they should be able to tell you how to take care of this.

If the visas are spoiled, or if the British HC keeps the ruined passport, you will have to get new visas. No one will transfer them automatically. You will have to do it yourself.

While you're applying for the replacement passport, ask the Brit Consul where to go and how to replace your NZ visa; they will know.
