Or are you making yourself available for serving at the church?
Baby sitting during service? Greeting at the entrance of the church?
Visiting old and sick? Helping feed the homeless? Delivering meals for the old? Helping cleaning church after the service?

If you are not, what is you view for what I just said?

My church encourages us to worship one hour a week, service one hour a week and study Scripture one hour a week.

...hmm...isn't that being rude, which love never is? (1Cor 13)

Isn't that judging someone else and their walk with God, not judging sinful behavior?

Just asking there Don since I read your site about what to look for when you visit a church. :o)

Anyhow, my Pastor teaches that one of the habits of highly effective Christians is to tithe their time, talents, and treasures to God's Kingdom work as a starting point.

There aren't many churches where I live. There are more mosques. In any case, you mentioned:

"Visiting old and sick? Helping feed the homeless? Delivering meals for the old?" Until recently I was doing all three - and will go back to doing so again soon, if I can find a nursing home I trust.

Forget service to the church; let's worry about service to humanity, whatever its religious flavour...

I run the sound board during the worship service, and I also teach Sunday School every week. I usually get my weekly worship in during our chapel service on tuesday morning at my divinity school. I agree with some of the other people, studying scripture for one hour a week is a good starting point, but you should strive for more than that.

I would hope that if I asked another to answer this for me, that they would say that I am available for what ever is needed at the time.

Driving the teens luggage down to church camp, because the van was full of teens. That was so encouraging that we needed last minute second van to transport the luggage.

I and my family try to live by the motto of the song, may all who come behind us find us faithful.

I'm a youth pastor so... yeah, lol. The scripture teaches us that all believers are priests, so we all need to participate actively. Faith without works is dead. But we shouldn't work outside our means, without proper training. But cleaning, serving, helping set up and tear down, all that can be done by anyone. Some training should be required before ministering spiritually to others.

Yes I try and help where ever I am needed. I love my church and support it whole hearted. I have been in church for 17 years and wouldn't trade it for anything. I work with the youth right now. I help with our children's church on Sunday mornings and I teach a class on Wednesday nights.
I don't mind helping out!

Whom do you serve? God or man.

It does not matter what your church asks you to do....
it's what GOD asks you to do, every minute of every day!

Just keep the communication lines open with Him, AT ALL TIMES, and trust me, no matter how old or where you are in your walk with Him, He can use you. All He is looking for is a "willing heart". Just build your relationship with Him and everything else will fall into place....

Studying scripture even more would probably help, too. And no, I don't do anything for any church.
