I have gone cold turkey from paxil since 19 days ago when I found out I was pregnant. The dizziness and vertigo, numbness in my lips and fingers, the constant agitation, it's all just as bad today as it was 2 days after I quit. Is there an end in site or should I plan to live the rest of my life like this. And does anyone know the % on baby with defects when their mothers quit this stupid drug in the first month or two of pregnancy. And before you ask, no this was not a planned pregnancy, but now I am in the situation and have to make the best of what I can...

I have contacted both my OB and my family doctor, they want me OFF the paxil, and so far I have not experienced any suicidal thougths or anything I am just miserable because of the physical side effects on top of being pregnant (morning sickness). I am just wondering how long the withdrawl effects lasted for others that may have gone cold turkey.

My GF was on paxil when she first got pregnant and she stopped immediately. It was tough at first but I love her very much and I helped her through it. I had to constently reassure her of herself and the health of our baby and I tried my best to get her through it. Now our baby is 3 months old and my GF has not even considered going back on it. I think the baby helped her enough to where she didn't need it anymore. Hopefully you have someone close to you that can help you through this because it is unknown what this drug can do to a fetus. Just be strong and think about your beautiful baby first and you may find you don't need paxil anymore. Good luck with everything. I hope it works out for the best!
It took her about 2 months before she started feeling better. Do your best, I'm sure you can do it.

I was in the same situation. I took Paxil most of my life and had to quit immediatly when I found out I was pregnant (about 2 months along)
I ended up needing another medication because I have terrible anxiety. My doctor put me on Zoloft because it has been proven safe for pregnant and nursing mothers.
Withdrawl symptoms are quite common, you should be getting over them within the next couple of weeks.
If you really need your medication, maybe ask about Zoloft, if really helped me through my pregnancy.

YOU WILL BE OK! it does go away. your body has a double whammy right now and the circuts are messing up. there is a website at paxilprogress.com and that was helpful for me. i ve been off it for 5 -6 months and wow its great! please do yoursewlf a favor and check out that website!!!!!!!! there are tons of others in the same boat as you! set your self up a plan of action if you should get feeling too nutty- have a plan for your safety and tell your family and frnds what you are going thru so they can at least not make things worse for you. drink lots of water. your body is just learning how to function on its own with out having the paxil. I KNOW HOW INCREDIBLY MISERABLE YOU MUST FEEL BUT YOU WILL FEEL GREAT AGAIN ONE DAY! love to you and best of luck!
and dont take any more of it, it wont help unless you go back on it regularly! let it get out of you!

You should call your obgyn and talk to him/her about what you are going through. Your doctor will be able to tell you how long the withdrawl will last, as well as how paxil might have affected your baby (if at all). You might also be able to get on a similar drug that is safe during pregnancy - but you should contact your doctor asap!

Oh I'm so sorry for you. You should have weaned yourself off of it. It builds up in the system. Usually it takes about 15 days to feel the full effects, when you start taking it. I don't know how much longer you will suffer.
I hav gotten mine down to 10 milligrams a day by cutting back 05 milligrams, a day, for a month.
You must be miserable. Maybe if You get so you can't stand it, you could take one reduced dosage dose.
Hope

Your dr. should have you titrating down off of that, NOT going cold turkey, people have committed suicide doing that! Is he nuts?! Nothing passes through to the fetus until the 4th month at least! I would call a real shrink (not an ob/gyn) and take 1/2 my dose tonite!

I think the meds can take up to a month and a half to clear out of your system so give it time, try to put your feet up and relax and remeber you have a precious gift on the way. I hope you feel better soon. Also there are depression meds that are supposed to be safe during pregnancy including prozac and zoloft so maybe see if you can be switched to that

You can't quit cold turkey. You have to gradually lower your dose until you come off it otherwise you are going to have withdrawl symptoms for quite some time.
