The current missiles they have can hit Alaska and Hawaii, but not California. They are working on a longer range missile that will have most of the USA within it's reach.

Don't freak out. You are far more likely to die in a car crash or from a heart attack. The reason they are flexing their muscles is just to show the world they can. They would not attack the USA, because that would cause the rest of the world to attack them and destroy their country. That's definitely something they don't want to do.

Definition of N Korean Long range missile: Has a better chance of making it out of the silo than the last one. They may have the range to hit Alaska. Range, not capability. US would shoot it down long before then. At any time? No.. the US has a missile (and therefor nuke) defense system that is not only massive but intricate. There's no such thing as "launching a nuke into America".. even if any country did try to nuke the US, the US would turn them into a hole in the ground.. even Russia couldn't deliver anything, they'd just get shot down. Not that they would- they fully know the US would make them nothing within minutes.

North Korea test fired a missile last night and it flew for precisely 23 seconds before it failed.

So on that basis a North Korean missile will be prefectly capable of hitting North Korea only, and with an effective range of around 100 metres.

It is 9thou plus and no, it can reach Alaska or Hawaii, assuming they can get it to stay up longer than the 45 seconds they achieved today, but we don't want that, either. We have our missile defense system which so far has a 50% effectiveness rate, and are building a better system.

Since I don't think they yet have a nuclear warhead they can attach to the missile, this is actually a good thing in redoubling our missile defense efforts, I think.

That way when we do need them, we will have them.

No one knows for sure if it can travel that far. N. Korea is a pretty isolated place. I have heard but only (heard) "a missile that may or may not be able to reach the west coast"

Not much help sorry. Find comfort in the fact that if they do that the U.S. will be bombing the crap out of them and than china and Russia will attack us. It will all be really ugly and you won't have to be around to see it. See always a bright side. LOL I live in the west too.

Theoritically yes they can. Though there may be things we can do like turn off GPS to stop a missle. Hopefully the Korean generals will be just as scared by this threat that htey have a coup. The leader of Korea is dead serious and would happily launch. So there is reason to be nervious but not much yet.

Yes there missile technically has the range to reach the entire west coast.

Today they fired a test, and the long-range missile that has that capability failed in mid-air. Obviously there's still some work left to be done. I woudln't worry about N. Cali. anyways. If they're going to hit something it's going to be L.A., S.F., Portland, or Seattle.

Not that I know of. Even if they have that kind of range, I'm not sure how accurate the missiles are. I think North Korea's president is bluffing. Deep down he knows that if he messes with the U.S., his small weak nation will catch a serious beating.

They are only building missles to try to scare us. They may be able to carry that far but the technology to arm them mid-air is very sophisticated and it would most likely be a dud anyway. Besides I'm sure all these little piss-ant nations know what the consequences of using such destructive weapons would be.
