sonshine, shortstory i know a woman who was molested by her father when she was a child. she prayed alot over this and years of pain followed. but till the day of her fathers death she helped the man she was the only one that helped him. and explained to her children why she did it. the lord said so was the main reason "honor thy father and mother in ALL things" knowing the ultimate rewards in heaven are for her and judgement for him by the hand of the lord...... i am not a bible thumper but i beleieve this is the truth. you do what you can for your parents regardless of their faults so long as it doesnt hurt your family if that parent trully needs somthing you must help if it is a whimper to get somthing for nothing you are not obligated to help at all. hold your head up when you meet the lord becuase you chose to honor not only your parents but the lords commandments..../

Honor and respect are kinda on the same page. You need to respect your parents because they are the people who brought you into this world and have raised you - but that doesn't mean you need to like what they do or even agree with it.
There is a big difference between disrespecting your parents and just not agreeing with what they are doing. Show them honor/respect by being polite to them, not speaking disrespectfully, etc.

The Bible also says "Provoke ye not ye children to wrath" Ephesians 6:4.
The line you mentioned gets more press.
Having the sexual organs healthy enough to reproduce is not a pre-requisite to sainthood. Reproduction is not a sacred act bestowed upon the "special".
Adoptive parents are not special simply because they made the decision to adopt. All parents have a sacred duty both legally and morally to provide financially (up to a certain age) and emotionally (for the rest of their lives) to their children
Respect should be given to those who give it. Good parents should be honored, respected, loved and cherished. Parents who do not honor, respect, love and cherish their children should remember the other Bible passage- "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord"

I am going through this with my husband and his mother. The way to honor parents you don't respect is not so much to honor the person as it is to honor the position the person holds. God put them in your life for a reason and you should honor him by honoring them. What is honoring your parents? You can honor them by praying for them, honor them by living an honorable life, honor them by being respectful even though they don't deserve it. No one is deserving of our love or respect but they did create you in a three way compact with God. Your father gave the sperm, mom the egg, and God the soul. You must honor them all.

You need to honor your parents because they are Adults and they are Authority. You need to respect Authority regardless if they are your parents, teacher, boss, whoever....

I'm a Gnostic Christian and I believe that we are only to honor our parents IF they ARE honorable.

Just deal with them.
Smile when you really want to scream.
That will make them think that you don't care what they say so eventually they will quit because they will think you don't care or you can just don't talk to them and ignore them

why dont you respect your parents? if they are bad people then no you dont have to have anything to do with them .But if you are an as*hole then you should fess up to it and give them the respect that you would wish your kids to give you. simple really if you can face the truth.

Forgive them for they are human and make mistakes and may make bad decisions. Love them for bringing you into this world but learn from their poor choices and don't end up like them
