I saw two birds on my porch and one kept opening its beak and the other one just seem to "kiss " the beak; they did not have any food and afterwards the bird who had its beak open fluttered its wings. They were maybe wrens. Were they in fact, making out?

It was definitely a newly fledged chick begging for food from a parent. Chicks tend to contort themselves in the weirdest positions, usually by twisting their heads to the side. Sometimes they'll do a begging dance that includes fluttering of wings and head bobbing.

This 'feed me' dance and how the food is given differs from species to species. Some birds will put a worm directly into the chick's mouth. Some will puke up dinner into the chick's beak. It's pretty disgusting stuff - stringy and brown >.< . Some birds will land by the chicks and tear off pieces of the food (such as in raptors like owls, hawks and eagles) and stuff it in the babys' mouths. Other species, like Gulls, will puke up dinner beside the chicks and the chicks will eat it off the edge of the nest. Then there's some species like pelicans who will stick their beaks down their parent's throat to get to the food in their parents' crops.

The parent bird was feeding its baby. Young ones that are almost the same size as their parents sometimes are still fed by their parents. They will flutter as they beg for food.

sounds like an adult feeding a baby. The food may have been too small for you to see. The babies will do a little wing flutter when begging and feeding.

One bird can be regergatating food for the other. They do not have to be baby and mother. It is just a sign that they like each other. They do not have to be opposite sexes either. :)

know this one.
