The best brand between the ones you mentioned is for sure BMW.
Honda is very good too, since is very reliable as most Japanese cars.
Peugeot is not as good as the other two.
But, if you can afford a BMW, don't even hesitate for a second, you'll mantain the value of your car much more than with any of the other ones and you won't have to go to the mechanic as often.
As more affordable, I'd suggest you a 325i touring as a family car, is a station wagon is extremely pretty, it has an excellent engine and is quite economic on gas.
Look at it at www.bmw.com
Good Luck!

Honda is the best brand for the money. It's reliable, safe and not that expensive to maintain. BMW is money all the way around..even older ones cost alot of $ to upkeep.
A simple oil change will probably run you $85 dollars which includes parts and labor..maybe more. If you want to change or repair something alittle more extensive like say a radiator, that will run you up in the $600 dollar range.

How do I know this? I own one and my radiator in my BMW went out and I had to buy a new one..luckily I know how to work on them.

Peugeot stopped selling cars in the USA back in the 1980s'..my thought is because they were a pain. Peugeots are badly engineered cars..they came with no room to work in the engine bay and they were always breaking down. Another thing is that in the US there are NO readily available parts for Peugeots..mainly because there are no Peugeots running around. Even when they were being sold in the US, they were not popular or very reliable as i mentioned.

Honda doesn't have the problems the other two have. Honda has a decent reputation and parts aren't that expensive, and of course there are plenty of parts available for Hondas. This is perhaps one of the most important issues because when it comes time for maintanence, if you cannot located your part(s), you will be screwed..and if someone does find it for you, it will cost you an arm and a leg for sure.

Wow, from the looks of this, you are in Europe so I am at a disadvantage being in the states (Peugot is no longer sold here) but I will give it a try.

VW & Audi: Their range of cars is pretty good, and includes some solid diesels engines as well as a new twin charged engine with turbo and supercharger for better gas fuel economy.
PROS: Fit and finish in entry level cars. More engaging to drive than many competitors. Value for money.
CONS: Some long term reliability questions. Minor electrical issues sometimes occur. Audis can be pricey.

Honda: Slightly less range, and I believe the European Accord is smaller than the US model.
PROS: BUild quality and reliability. Peppy motors.
CONS: Designs tend to be narrow, so limited hip and elbow room. Can be somewhat passionless vehicles.

Peugot: Great raing lineage, especially in world rallye.
PROS: Engaging drive, tailored to European market so not compromised for other tastes (read American).
CONS: They're French and to the best of my knowledge, the French have not had a stellar reputation when it comes to quality.

BMW: These are highly compotent performance vehicles with a legendary status in terms of racing and performace.
PROS: Gutsy motors, wide ranges of model and engine combinations, including many diesels. Fantastic to drive and wonderfully made.
CONS: Pricey, and can be equally pricey to repair.

Opel: German affiliate of GM.
PROS: The Calibra is available with all-wheel drive and is competitively priced.
CONS: While German made, they are affiliated with GM and that company is not known for its long term quality or cutting edge technology.

Mercedes-Benz: High end classy cars, but some dealers may carry some Chrylser offerings since the merger that created Dailer Benz and those can be cheaper, but also quite good.
PROS: Quality, luxury, and amenities.
CONS: Price

I could go into some others like Renault (worse record than Peugot on reliability), Nissan (owned by Renault), Mazda, Subaru, Jaguar, and others, but I think that would unduly cloud the issue. I am partial to VW, and their upmarket division Audi. The new A3 and Golf (called Rabbit here) are very good vehicles and offer fit and finish not found in many of their competitors. If you prefer a larger car, BMW makes excellent vehicles, and their diesel engines are lauded throughout Europe (sadly none come across the pond to us).

I hope this helped, and my official recommendation is look at VW first. If that is too small and not to your taste, try BMW. If it is too small, but you like the feel, try Audi. If none of these do it for you, you likely would find a Honda to your liking.

It all depends on what you need from the car you buy.

If it's going to be your only car, and you need it to work day after day with minimum maintenance, Honda or Toyota is hard to beat. Basically, you put gas in it, change oil at every 3000 miles, tires and brakes when they wear out. That's all you need to do.

It'll require nothing outside of routine maintenance until at least the warranty expires. Likely, it'll be ok alot longer in the order of 50 or 75 thousand miles.

You will only need to worry about serious repairs until it hits 100 thousand miles or more.

On any German cars, they require constant maintenance. BMW pays for maintenance during the warrnaty period, but still, you still need to take it in and have it done. BMW 3 series are reliable, but 5 and 7 are not. Forget owning it beyond warranty period as repair will be frequent and expensive. Contrary to popular belief, parts on German cars are not expensive, but they consume large quantity frequently, and labors aren't cheap either.

BUT, they are fun to drive. I highly recommend them for second FUN car. (I had one and I loved it, although upkeep was not easy)

I have no opinion on Peugeot.

I am not quite sure why you are comparing 3 cars that do not belong in the same category, and price range. I don't exactly call BMW affordable, but your situation may be different.

Honda...Honda...Honda...am I making myself clear?
BMW's are great cars but are an electronic nightmare; there are miles of electrical wiring, dozens of computers/modules and God-only-knows how many sensors, switches, millions of lines of programing code loaded into the main operating computer. The 'drivers car' is slowing evolving into a mere appliance that people will just sit and guide around letting the vehicle brain make all decisions about traction, steering, braking, lights, climate control, etc., etc.
The Peugeot is a French made pice of s***.
The Honda is solid, fast, easy to maintain and has one of the best resale values available.
My personal favorite is the Ford GT. Hey, if you're gonna dream....

It varies from model to model. I suggest checking edmunds.com . Since affordable is important to you, check their true cost to own section. It will estimate the total costs for 5 years of ownership including maintenance, depreciation, insurance, repairs, etc. I never owned a BMW or Peugeot, but have always been satisfied by the Hondas I've owned.

Any toyota...the camry is my fav...
pros --> fuel efficient like about forty one miles per gallon...it is small and easier to drive b/c it is small...and of course it is cheap, no more that $20,000.
cons--> b/c it is small, it cant get thru rugged roads...but if it is for family use...i dont think you have any business on top of a mountain, unless u are on a camping trip...in that case...get the toyota tundra (a bit pricey [i saw it for about 50,000+])
