Be aware that if it is indeed proscuitto that your guy is talking about, it is a very expensive ham to buy. Like well over 100 bucks for a whole one.
If you are buying it for a sandwich, a finer deli will have it prepared and slice it for you for the sandwiches and then you can just buy it by the pound. Again, expect to pay 15 bucks or more a lb.
As for pickled peppers, I did recently see a recipe for hot pickled peppers on www.foodtv.com pn Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello.
Also, Italian men are very bossy and are used to being waited on hand and foot. I know. I grew up in an Italian home.

I think the ham you are talking about is Promiscuto (not sure about the spelling) They are cooked just like a Verginia ham. I woud buy the pickled peppers from an italian grocery. They could help you out with advice on the ham too.

If you are talking about PROSCIUTTO which is an "Italian" ham, then you do not cook it because it is a salt or dry(smoked) cured ham. You will have to get it at an Italian deli asking them to slice it EXTREMELY thin (see through thin).

use prosciutto, which is raw ham. It's very delicious.
