One of my cousins went in to rehab and I asked her later on how detox was and she was furious with me for the mix-up (we've long since made amends but that subject is taboo).

Her mom said she never needed detox, she "kicked the junk herself" - but as I recall the rehab was pretty expensive.

Detoxing just gets the drug/alcohol out of your system. Depending on the addiction this can be brutal or fatal and require that it be done by medical professionals.
Rehab just stands for rehabilitation. It keeps you from leaving after your detox to get high/drunk again. It is suppose to help you decide why you ended up that way in the first place and what you need to do/change/avoid to prevent ending up in that place again. Sadly most first time rehabers end up using again and must repeat the process again... sometimes several times.

Detox is usually a short time. Long enough for you body to get the "substance" out of the body...ie. going thru the withdraws in a safe place. Detox is also usually no voluntary.
Rehab is not only a voluntary detox but also a recovery afterward. They are usually programs with a certain length of time and counseling is involved. Not only individual but also group. Rehab also gives classes on how to remain clean and gives you tips on how to avoid relapse.
think of it like this.... you are a heavy drinker.....
Detox- being put in jail and going thru withdraws then being released after the withdraws are done.
Rehab- Going to an inpatient clinic to help manage your withdraw symptoms, then seeking counseling and support groups like AA.

Does this help any?????

Detox is when you are coming off the addiction, you still have drugs in your system it is harder than rehab because your body is going through a withdrawl, rehab is the process that takes place afterwards that teaches you about how to avoid addiction and how to clean your act up. They are different but very similar so it is easy to get them mixed up. I dont know why she would be upset, but we all have our reasons.

Detox is where someone goes to "dry out"... It's usually where they go through the withdrawl and DT's (delirium tremors).

Rehab is for people who have already been through detox. It's where a person gets counseling and works in group situations to deal with their addictions. Family therapy is often involved. People in rehab also attend alot of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings.

Detox is just that: De-tox-ifying the individual from the substance that they have become addicted to and are under the influence of at the present time. That can include the medical issues of the drug in the body as well as just getting sober. Rehab is the long term addressing of the issues of alcohol and / or other chemical addiction and the particular aspects of that individual's "drug of choice". God Bless you.

Detox is the relatively short period of time when the addicted one comes "off" the drugs and/or alcohol. Rehab is the longer program in which the person learns skills with which to cope with life instead of using drugs and alcohol. Why your cousin was angered by your faux pas is beyond me.

Detox cleans the toxins out of your system and rehab "tries to" teach you how to go about your life without falling back into your old bad habits, teaches you how to resist drugs that you once relied on.....

my understanding of detox is where you go to sober up until you are out of danger to self and others.

Rehab is where you go to learn how not to rely on that drug/substance to get through a situation.

large question madhavi:) you realize however those words sound synonimous yet nonetheless there lies a "deep" distinction !! Happiness could be got here across of issues which won't additionally be valuable to our non secular or psychological element like we could circulate out & have our popular dish & clothing and so on., we would experience happy. yet satisfaction comes from a sort of achievent, if we get reliable grades in examine we would get a favorable feeling that asserts "troublesome be conscious paid off" now thats greater valuable isn't it ;p[ Now peace.... i think of it relies upon on what concepts-set we undertake towads the "events" we do for "happiness" or the two "satisfaction", peace extremely exist in our self, it basically should be got here across by way human beings. a guy or woman of lack of know-how ought to experience peace on a similar time as a troublesome worker must be strresed. that's even oposite to that .
