they always follow it up with the words "peace be upon him"? I guess some people worship Mohamed like he is Allah (Or God). Sure, he is an important figure in the Muslim faith but how would that be different than a christian worshiping Peter? Both Peter and Mohamed made their share of mistakes as every human does (let's face it Peter denied knowing Jesus on three different times and Mohamed was just a human with mistakes also).

I don’t think so.
It like their culture to ‘peace be upon him’ when they heard the name of Mohammed. It like we say ‘bless you’ when someone sneeze

No, it is more like Christians worshipping Jesus. They did not do that until later, you know. Council of Nicea in the 323 AD or so, was when they decided Jesus was a god. But I do agree, the Muslims do not worship Mohammed (pbuh). They respect him as a prophet, honor him as bringing the word of Allah to mankind.

Peter is another story but I think for Muslims, anyone who respeced and worked for Allah should be given the honor of "peace be upon him." Also, in Muslim and Christina religion, all the people were excited when there was a prophet and some people in CHristian religion thought he was the Messiah. But, for the Muslim case...they just love him and prophets obviously.

It is a way of:
i) Showing respect to the individual;
ii) Recognizeing their state of Holiness;

FWIW, you can tell both the sect, and their degree of religious devotion, by where, when, and how a person writes that phrase.

They are actually saying "piss be upon him" because they know he is in hell and any moisture at all will be welcomed by him.
