Don't assume changes in his behavior are because of drugs. Can you get him to honestly tell you what is bothering him or has he nothing to say to you? Have you been there not when he asked, but when you knew deep inside he needed you. Now is the time to make a stand on how much he perceives that you care. If there are problems in the home, GET COUNSELING.
Don't listen to the paranoids, they will tell you to assume. You know what the saying is, right?
Even if he is doing drugs, he needs you to be there and try to undrestand the things he is feeling. He is also looking for something to look up to and guide him, are you all that?
Don't be so proud as to beleive that only he is at fault.
Don't ask everyone their opinion unless you have all of the facts, often you get more BS than help!!!!
Ask yourself this...what if he has been molested or discovered he's gay, you just might push him into drugs if he isn't already using.

Most teens go through a stage where they either try drugs or take them for a short amount of time, this is just to let you know a majority of parents are in the same boat as you.
Depends on the drug that your son is taking as to what the effects will be, and also different drugs affect different people in different ways.
Pot would be your son staying out late at night and trying to be as distant as possible when they get home. Talk slower and act a bit dumb. They get self consience usually and tend to seem unconfident. Usually the distance thing will make this obvious.
If its a party drug such as XTC, everyone has a come down the day after. Mood swings after a night out are the thing to look for, red eyes, or anything different after a night out that you dont usually see.
This information is pretty general but i have quite a bit of knowledge from personal experience, your welcome to contact if you wish.

Well, you could always get the home tests where you can test his hair follicles. This may sound a bit extreme, but if you want to know, it will surely tell you...and it will date back 7 years. Does he carry Visine around?(gets the red out) Alot of kids now days are huffing paint and compressed air(think keyboard cleaning). Both are very dangerous. Look at school grades and who he is hanging around. Has he changed his group of friends? His eyes are a sure way to tell....i.e. red and bloodshot and /or dilated, possible slurred speech or talking really fast or slow. There are so many drugs that could have so many effects. I would try asking him up front and talking to him. You may be surprised by his answer. Good luck and if I can help anymore, please e-mail me. Good luck!!

If I had a real feeling that my child was on drugs, I'd take them to the doctor for a blood test. No ifs ands or buts.
When it comes to your child's health, there is NOTHING more imoprtant.
But try to make sure you're not reading traditional teen angst into something else. Are his grades dropping? Has he changed friends? Are his eyes red? Does he wear sunglasses in the house? Do you notice funny smells around him? Does he disobey much more than he used to? Have you searched his room?
Have you asked him?
Good luck.

first of all your child is a teenager i assume so of course he's changed and second of all, your child is a teenager so of course he's doing drugs. or did drugs. almost everyone in highschool has smoked weed at least once. i never have, but i look around my school and i see my best friends talking about how wasted they got or how high they've got. the trick is to let your son know that you will always be there for him even if it means waiting at the detox center for him.

Don't necessarily assume that he is on drugs but that is a possiblilty. Have you thought about talking with your child? I understand that asking him may be detrimental but you could ask and you could search his room for drug paraphinalia and equiptment. Sometimes being a good parent means being the bad guy. If he is and you confront him you can finally help him instead of ignoring a sitiuation that could go from bad to worse.

Hair sample clipped at scalp, take full strands in for testing. not only will this tell you if your child is a user also depending on how long the hair is it will tell you how long the drug use has or has not been going on.

Check for red eyes, shaking, and drug residue and or "equipment"/pills/strange "plants" in his room, and/or you can just ask him, or bring in Dr. Phil.

Search his room, make him take a drug test, secretly follow him, use your imagination.
