I give to church and charities without bothering to write it off on taxes. My personal thoughts are that the giving is far more important than the tax write off.

Yes, I'd continue giving.
God's Word instructed us to give of our "first fruits" long before the IRS was around. I obey the Word. The fact that we can write off the giving for tax purposes is a "law of the land" issue. I think it's great that we can! But even if we couldn't, I'd still give.
Practically speaking, the tithe is meant to be used for the furtherence of God's kingdom. That includes missions as well as the everyday running of the church itself. Churches may be tax exempt, but they still have bills to pay. Electricity, water/sewer/trash, phones, internet, office supplies, Sunday School materials, infant and toddler care supplies, etc. etc. In addition, there are staff members (pastors, office admin, janitorial, etc.) whose livelihoods depend on my giving. Pastoral work is a full time job...and they need to be paid a salary, just like everyone else. Otherwise they couldn't do what we as a body of Christ need them to do....which is to teach and lead. Anyway, that money has to come from somewhere.

Yes, I would continue to give to my church even if I couldn't write it on my taxes, because God promised that He would provide us with whatever we need in our time of need. My church would help me out with my financial needs anyway.

of course. I don't give because I get a tax write off, I give because everything I have came from God and I want to give back. It is a way to worship, I can't sing so good so I worship by giving.

Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar's and to God what is His...
Who reports tithes in their taxes? I don't even think you're supposed to, legally. Tithing is an act of obedience that has to come from the heart. God will accept 5 bucks from the heart rather than 5,000 bucks from a heart that really doesn't want to give. It took me a long time to realize, that God has given me everything and only wants 10% of my paycheck.

I stopped writing off what I give to my church on my taxes a few years ago as I felt under conviction that what I gave to God I should keep in God's keeping as I had given to "Ceaser" what was his already and why should I allow Ceaser to give me back anything I had given to God.

I've never, ever, reported anything I gave, to charity or otherwise, for any kind of a tax write-off benefit.
my Bible says to do good deeds anonymously, and that's how I do them.
