YES... and bad grammar as well (as in, "DO people with bad spelling...").
I've always believed that whatever language you use, you should take pride in using it well. Take that bit of extra time to look up the spelling of a word, and proof-read before sending. It's easy to have a dictionary or www.dictionary.com handy.
Over the last few years my opinion has softened, though. The world is changing. People from all over the world are communicating, and often in short spurts like this. If I had to communicate in Spanish, my Spanish spelling and grammar would be awful. Maybe it's just more important that people are talking to each other? I'm still thinking this one through... and hoping my spelling and grammar are perfect for answering this particular question!

The spelling and grammar for some of these messages is very, very poor. But a reader can not tell if its just a small child or an older person pounding the keyboard and butchering the language. They do not seem to use the spell checker either showing they can not decide if its recommendation is correct. I just ignore it and continue looking for diamonds in the rough.

not really as long as i can understand
i usually don't answer if i don't understand the question
so good spelling can increase the chance of being answered
by the way, we now have the 'check spelling' function; really bad spelling on Q&A can show that the asker/answerers haven't used the function

Yes it does. I know some of it is intentional as shortcuts, but what is so sad are the ones who obviously just can't spell. What are our schools doing?

And yes, poor grammar is a nuisance too.
