You are backwards. White gold fades - platinum doesn't. White gold is simply yellow gold that's been coated with another metal (rhodium), and if you wear your rings all the time, it can fade rather quickly. Platinum is more sturdy and won't fade - much more respresentative of a marriage.
So, the way to decide would be to figure out what you wear more of and what you think you look better in. Once you've decided between the two, go find the ring of your dreams!

Real platnium won't fade and gold will NEVER be out of style. As long as the ring comes from the heart, what does it really matter?

I prefer white gold. I think it looks more classy. However nowdays I think the style is the mix of both. Rings that are white gold with a band that comes over in gold. I also love this look too.

White gold or platinum with lots of diamond bling bling. Antique style is very much in... and the classic diamond solitaire will never go out of fashion.
While white metal around the prongs, makes the diamond look more white, I personally don't like the look of having the ring entirely in that metal. I prefer yellow or rose gold for wedding rings.
I think if you like white gold ( it has to be re plated every now and then) but hey you're the one that has to wear it..and if that's your metal of choice, I think that's what you should wear. :)

My enagement ring is platnium and I don't think it fades because it has a higher value then gold. It really brings out your diamond thats the way my looks. I have a 2 carat pearshape diamond

platinum doesn't fade - it just loses a little of the shine and will tend to look more matte (some people prefer the matte look) but that can be polished up. i was told white gold is just yellow gold with different metals added to make it white so over time and depending on your skin it will become yellowish and need to be polished as well.

I got a white gold engagement ring both times! (I broke my first engagement off) but um, yeah, it was because I love how it looks, I like white gold better on me, but my husband to be, um he doesn't look too good with white gold, so is just like ugh we wont match, cause if you get a white gold engagement ring your wedding band will be white too, but he wants yellow gold on his and I want the diamond white gold one, but other than that I think white gold is more common now...just think if he will wear white gold too and if you want to match

I like white gold. It doesn't look to flashy. I want my engagement ring to be an emerald cut diamond with a white gold band.

White gold is always more appropriate than yellow gold. Platinum doesn't fade and is stronger than gold, so it actually gets my vote. You can't go wrong with a classic round stone in a platinum prong setting.

Platinum will NOT fade. Nor will titanium. Whoever told you that was mistaken. It is, in fact, true that white gold will eventually take on a yellow-ish gold color. If you are looking for a white gold look that will last, buy platinum.
