My boyfriend does that and I am not really used to it. Although it is very sweet and very romantic to have someone who is that courteous. Some women may not like it because it makes them feel small. It makes them feel like they are a child who can't do things for themselves. When really they should respond to that kind of treatment with an air of royalty. They should think that I am so special my hands cannot touch that icky car door. But keep doing it women d like that stuff even though they may not show it. later on when they talk to theitr friends on the phone she is going to be like " Honey child you will not belive what this guy did. He pulled out my chair and opened my door. IT WAS LIKE HEAVEN. ( screams and giggle giggle giggle ) you catch my drift.

I don't really think it's demeaning. I mean, it's obvious that women are capable of opening their own doors and pulling out their own chairs. A guy I went out with recently held the door for me, and I thought it was very nice.

Some women take offense to it but I don't. I like it when a gentleman holds the door open for me, pulls the chair out for me, carries the heavy stuff for me, and pays the bill when he takes me out to eat.
Some women, I guess, think it is demeaning. I don't. I think it elevates her and places her on a pedestal. What woman wouldn't want that?

Most women prefer be though of as individuals and not to be stereotyped. *Some* women like a man to act chivalrous, and others find it demeaning. You need to find out what works for each particular person. Open a door once, and note her reaction. Does she smile and say "thank you" or glare at you?
Personally, I like it when someone (male or female) is courteous and holds a door for me, and I do it for others when I can.

We love it.. The problem is most guys now days don't do it. So when we find a nice guy who trys it makes us feel weird.. In the town I live in if I waited for a guy to open my door I'd still be sitting in my car.... I say if you like to do it then do it. She'll get used to it and it won't take very long for her enjoy it :)

I applaud your chivalrous attitude. As an independent and self-reliant woman I have no problem accepting an opened door or any other form of chivalrous act. You are completely right, in that it does show attention and care. So while it is not necessary by any means it should always be appreciated.

Sure, we like to be lazy and waited on, we just don't show it. I think we sometimes just expect it.
