The question is: are you ready for a *permanent* relationship? Because that is what sex creates(*). You become one flesh, and if you break up after that, you leave a bit of yourself behind with that person, and they with you. So the thing to do is make a permanent commitment to each other (i.e. get married) before you do that.
Now, there is one more thing to keep in mind here. When you are young, your parents are the most important people in your life. Once you have made that permanent commitment to someone else and become one flesh with them, then that changes everything and your spouse has to be the most important.
So, before you do anything, you need to get independent of your parents. If you are in a position to do that now, OK, go ahead and do it. Leave father and mother, cleave to your spouse, and become one flesh. But if you aren't, then definitely wait.

Are you ready for the emotional responsibility? It's a lot more than you may think. Are you ready to support a child if you got pregnant? You need to make sure both of you are STD free and use protection and birth control.

waiting = delayed gratification
the longer you delay = the more powerful it is
due to sex being powerful, waiting for marriage is best.
here's a thought: instead of sex, keep creating the love you have discovered in the 4 years, let it grow, set healthy boundaries when you are together, get through school, perhaps some college, then get married.....and MAKE LOVE as much as you want!

If you are having doubts, then you should wait. Even if you come to the conclusion that you want to have sex with your boyfriend, have you planned it out and thought of the consequences?
Do you truly love him? Does he truly love you?
If you stated that you do not want to have sex now and want to wait, how would he react?
Are you ready to give yourself, body and soul to this man?
Do you have protection?
Are your prepared for the consequences of what might happen (pregnancy, etc)?

wait... I don't want to be a prude... but I had a LOT of sex before marriage and now I wish I would have waited. My wife feels the same. Too much baggage comes when you get "attached" after having sex.

Wait. Those are not your instincts. They are hormones. You have waited this long why not till your 18 and its if you get pregnant then you are of age. But then again you will be old enough to get married and since you been together all this time it shouldnt matter if you wait. Right????????????????????????????

17 is too young. If he is 18 or older it could even be illegal.
Better to just wait a while longer....
