We're all just grains of sand on an enormous beach, and that in a way is comforting and calming, to know that you are a part of the universe, that we are all made of stars. With that said though, it is pretty ****** incredible that the Earth is here and that there are living beings on it, beings that have such a capacity for amazing things. When you consider how many things had to happen and had to fall into place perfectly so that life could be created, it's no wonder that people believe in religion and miracles.

You should define "God". It's rational to believe in some sort of creative force or energy of our material Universe. It wasn't always here, it came from somewhere. That doesn't mean some intelligent being thought up the creation of the Universe. It could have been a complete random accident.

The problem with religion is that it tries to characterize this creative energy as some sort of moral, emotional thinker... when the actual Truth is completely unknown to us. Good and evil are not absolute.

All I hear is a statement. A statement may be true or false. You're just thinking that believing God is a lie. I think that you ought to thank God because you're capable of thinking. I neither think or assume the existence of God because in worship I have met Him. Now, you think, and I think, just to be at your level. Then, I worship; would you worship to be at my level? If you do, like I do, the discussion will be fair. You will know what I mean when I say that I have met God. He is wonderful and true.

Hey Moron - foolish moron - God is God and offer no proof that He is. Here's what I say

I have lived without God - I denied His Existence for 24 years I lived a hopeless life without purpose - life had no meaning. All the partying and wild life brought me nothing the next day I all always felt empty and hopeless. life was not worth living

When I finally acknowledged Him As God I began to understand Life and Life had hope and purpose. Today my life is complete I am happy and enjoy life and the empty feel inside is not there.

So who is gambling me or you

If I died and you were correct than God is manmade and I die like a beast in the field and there is no aferlife I will have lost nothing because in this life I lived good and God in this life took care of me. even if God is only here I have still lost nothing.

Now on the other hand

if you die and find yourself stand before God and He rejects you in the afterlife because you rejected Him in this life - you will have gambled all and lost all. You and all like you are fools - stupid fools - some day you will stand before God and pay the ultimate price - eternal damnation!

so mock on - its not over until He says its over

The need for justification, perhaps? The inability to take responsibility for their own actions, needing a duality of good and bad 'superior' ideals to take the blame and/or credit.
The need for emotional security too perhaps, regardless of the strength of it's foundations. Like the soldier with a fatal wound, asking if he's going to be all right and his comrade says yes, a lie he deems fitting so as to give his friend comfort in the last moments of life.

People believe in God for several reasons, one would be that they were taught from a young age that there is an omnipotent spiritual being who created us in his own image. I dont believe that you can say that going to hell is a lie, can you prove that heaven or hell exist? It is faith or the lack thereof that guides people to believe or not believe in God. People in Christs time believed because they witnessed miracles, and there are people today who believe that miracles stil happen but people dont accept them for what they are.

People believe in God because God has made his signs known to us in various ways throughout history of Man kind. He has inspired, guided human being by means of revealations. They inturn have relayed that message to their people. They are prophets and messengers of God. The first prophet being Adam. Read the translation of the Quran and the Hadith you may know when the truth hits you! you can not deny it.
Do you deny who created you?

Fear of the unknown, death, is the main reason. People want to believe that there is an afterlife and a reason to live a good life. Something to look forward to after death. They don't want their life to be out of control. They need something to look up to for guidance and strength when times are hard.

There is also the need to belong to a group, there is the factor o immaturity and the need to believe in fantasy, another aspect of immaturity is not accepting responsibility for one's own decisions and actions.
