You guys are so good at contacting your representatives, do you think we could add a letter or two reminding them to take care of our disabled and homeless Vets?

200,000 are homeless and "Almost half of America's 2.7 million disabled veterans receive $337 or less a month in benefits, according to the government. Fewer than one-tenth are rated 100 percent disabled, meaning they get $2,393 a month, tax free."

I think we should do better. What do you think?

Once again DAR, you are expecting too much from our govt. Imagine, taking care of those who took care of us. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??!!

It seems to me that giving themselves raises; arguing about flag burning, gay marriage and language to use in an unbinding statement about Iraq is much better use of their time than making sure our VA hospitals are funded and the people who put their lives on the line get the assistance they need.

I mean really, would you have them take the money spent on illegal immigrants assistance for our vets?

I have said it before DAR there is something wrong with the way you think.

(but keep it up and l'd recommend they also find a veteran's charity group they like and donate when they can. - and even if they can't thanking vets now and again for their service means a lot.)

The ones with $337 a month or less in benefits are usually suffering from a minor injury. And 1 out of ten fully disabled compensation is pretty high since the majority served in peactime. Some deserve more, some less. The problem lies in the fact that discrepencies occur state to state.

They were promised jobs--but the rule is employment now the same job. That is what happened to Viet Nam Vets. The same now.
I am afraid there isn't much money left in programs--everyone will have to take even less.

I am doing what I can now for some.

xtow--The average check is 300-to 500. For millions. I personally have never saw one that high. And it is not small disabilities---go take a walk in any VA hospital-any-day

to the other post sit with some who have no legs-thousands of them-who would hire them? they need more and others are taking it away from them and it means they will get less.-rather they mean too or not. Tell than why other able bodies need it more to improve their life. Tell Gramdma-she won't get her medicine to live-because the money she put in is gone. The WHY NOW is because we are facing a drain and it will continue.

This is one of the problems I have with the war in Iraq. In 10 years, who's gonna want to hire people that have disabilities from there ?
A lot of employers will lay them off. You know, gotta conform. And some will have trouble while dealing with their problems "serving" America.
BTW, happy 4th.

WOW........again WOW!

Both of us are "disabled" veterans. Oh don't say "WHAT"...a simple injury for me (knee)......a little more painful for him (ankle blown away.....well....almost).

We are blessed that we NEVER relied on the military to "sustain" us. Both of us entered for the college benefits. That being said......millions DIDN'T enter like that and if ANY of them had experienced a injury like my husbands.....probably would be hard pressed to find "good" and "well paying" jobs.

So.......why.....why.....do I support amnesty (my husband doesn't) because I was raised in CA by broad minded parents who taught me early what a "migrant worker" was. We often sat at the same table. Years this has gone on......NOW......NOW..... it is an issue. I CAN'T accept that. It this was such a felonious act.....why NOW?......Why now?

So after a semi-rant......thank you.....I wish YOUR focus was on "Disabled Vets" DAR.....we could use you.....most the time you make sense LMAO.

There is nothing too good for our vets. You are right we could do a lot better. We could start by paying them a decent wage while they are fighting to protect us.

Yes if they fought in war for us, they are the best, and proud of them. I think we can do much better, but our government sucks when it comes to our vets. They want you to fight, but after they don't want to take care of them.
