Hi Bill/Jim-

I must wonder at the fairness of such a question. Science has neither proven nor disproven the existance of God. I will pose this to you (it's not perfect, but it's the best I have at the moment, lol.)

Picture a pot of boiling water. Why is the water boiling? You can say "The heat transfers from the stove to the pot, thus heating the water to boiling." You can also say "I put the pot of water on the burner and turned on the stove."

Are both not correct? I have respect for you as an intelligent human being. I am curious to what you think.

Best wishes.

A topic that will never end. Those that believe will not even begin to accept anything else. Those who do not believe feel threatened by those that do. It is ignorance on both sides that keep the issue on the front page. For those that do believe in god and his powers have a need for something to give them a sense of worth. In this sense he does exist for them. For those that do not believe in god usualy find another means of giving themselves meaning in life. What ever this is it then becomes their god. For a few that know who they really are and willing to fece who they are have no need for this crutch to hold them up. For the most unfortunant of those that believe in god and also have other crutches such as drugs and alcohol will never fully have a life of peace. It has been well known for centuries that religions in all its forms are creations of man to control man. It always has been a few that lead and guide the masses. This is best served by religion when people are uneducated. Civil law is becoming the main control in many places now and again is a few guiding the masses. Social animals need a set of rules to be able to live in groups. Those in power are quite often very greedy and monipulate and change the rules over time to further their own greed..... Is there a god? Yes for those that need something to blame for their own short comings and therefor gives them a sence of worth. Every person on earth will find a god for them. He will come in many guises but will still be the same crutch to hold people up.

I've been thinking about this. I think that theists who can say 'proof is immaterial to my belief - I just accept it as is and don't need to know why' are actually the ones with the correct approach. If they attempt to disprove non-believers, they are taking belief into the realm of the scientific method and logical debate, and they are bound to go nowhere. Sooner or later, it will go back to 'because the Bible said so'. Why not just keep it there in the first place?

Well for starters, trying to "prove" that God DOES exist is equally fraught with the apparent great gaps in the human knowledge base. Thing is, we are just too BOUNDED in our rationality, methodology, media, and purveyance at this point in space-time to provide the adequate definitive evidence either way. So it does have to be a question of faith...
As for myself, I choose to believe in a singular divine personality who is OMNIPOTENT, omniscient (that's the most difficult one for most), and omni-present (another "hard one" around which to wrap our pointed little brains) - one that is personally involved and interested in the affairs of this earth and each sentient entity in the universe. Most scientists who "believe" are 'deists' in that their thinking is much along the lines of an "uninvolved God" - much along the lines of Spinoza. Though like myself, much of the compelling reasons for their belief stems from the teleological factoring about the fine balance for the requirements for sentient life as we understand it: This planet upon which we owe our corporeal, organic existence is a prime example a "numbers game" - of just how "simpatico" to the diversity of life and the established eco-systems that the location from the sun, our one moon's relative distance from Earth, and the proportional amount of waters that even make possible the atmospheric conditions for life, ARE. That was a real "mouthful," but because we are so "unlikely" tends to lead one to conclude for intelligent design orchestrations to this whole earthly existence come about!
I'm not saying we're the only planet with life "out there," but as planets go, we have one that must surely rate in the 98th percentile of livability. Moreover, while God may not have put all "His" eggs in one basket, we humans ARE unique and it's my guess we are held as precious in Our Maker's Eyes - not that I understand why (it's probably that "love-which-surpasses-all understanding" thing).... I mean, just fully consider this planet... what a friggin' GIFT! Anyone with a modicum of relective capasity should be able to connect and "concur" about this fact Earth's sheer beauty!
But in final answer to you question: it is indeed unreasonable to ask for the "proof" of God's existence or non-existence... ultimately, it IS a matter of faith... and maybe it's meant to be that way for the time being (a test?).

yeah, that's bankruptcy material alrightie, Bill. It's a laff & a half. I've heard (ad nauseum) 'prove there is a God' and it's always the intellectual religious assholes who just KNOW that 'HE' does that come up with the above comment, man.. (am i too right or what here?! lol)

I enjoy the 'evolution is an incomplete theory therefore its false and Judeo-Christian beliefs are therefore proven true' argument.
Ahh... that's a classic.
I think you might have found the metaphorical bottom of the barrel with that one though.

Maybe this one "Jesus takes your free will"

Never once did that ever happen. If he did there would never have been a murder by a Christian.
