Dont throw away the milk first of all its very good for you or children or baking, take the coconut find the eye usually the softest part of the hard shell play a point hardwood stick or nail and place it into a ground or have someone hold it for you and slamm the coconut down on it, right away turn it up again and drain the milk into a glass. then if your outside just hit it against a slightly jagged rock or if nothing like that use a hard heavy object such as a hamer, claw etc. and crack where you made the hole will open much easier, and eat all the white or store in freezer for baking cookies, cakes etc. there are two shells the green part if you have that is opened again but the slam but also its much softer than the inner and can be peeled, can be fun if you make it fun. gl enjoy

Is your coconut green or brown?

Green coconuts are fresh. Whack off the top with a machete or large sharp knife. You want to knock off a circular section about 4-5 inches in diameter at the very top. This will give you a hole about 2-3 inches into the interior. Stick a straw in the hole and drink the juice. Then use the machete to open up the shell and scoop out the white meat with your fingers or a spoon.

Brown coconuts are dry. Pound your way in with a long nail and hammer to crack the shell. The juice that is in them is old and not very tasty, so dump it out. The cut the shell into pieces as best you can and scrape off the meat.

Personally, I much prefer green coconuts because the juice is great. I don't bother with the brown. But in many areas, only the brown are available, so you have to eat what you can get.

okay I don't know an easy way to do this, I used a hammer and a large serated knife to do this...once we got it open it wasn't that great because it's not sweetend like when you buy coconut in the store (shredded or coconut milk in a can) thats usually sweetned. I'm sure there is a more official way to do it but that's how we tried to do it. good luck!

drill into at least two of the soft holes at the top. Use a straw or pour out the milk. Then bust it with a hammer and pry out the meat. Throwing it onto concrete works or crushing it with a forklift.

You use a hammer and a screwdriver to poke a hole and drain the milk. Then you smash it and eat the white stuff.

Ask someone with experience. e.g. a thai drink stall, to cut open it with a curve knife.
