Muslims consider non-Muslims second-class citizens and some sects see it as their duty to establish Islamic governments throughout the world. Witness the government of Iran, the Taliban in Afghanistan, and the new government of Somalia.
It is not self-defense to detonate a suicide bomb in a crowd of civilians, blow up a mosque, assassinate Iraqi police recruits, pull over buses and execute all non-Sunnis, or set roadside bombs that indiscriminately blow up whoever drives by first. These are the actions of the terrorists some people here support.
Self-defense is by definition DEFENSIVE. Terrorism is OFFENSIVE. When the terrorists in Iraq stop their offensive actions against the Iraqi civilians, the US troops will gladly leave.

murdering innocent civilians and suicide is forbidden in Islam, so they aren't really considered Muslims. And i think the reason they do that is because the Israeli's and Bush have so much power and so many weapons that the poor Muslims have no way to fight back or defend themselves. Israeli's and Bush are taking advantage of them leaving them with no choice but to defend themselves the only way they can- secretly and unfairly. If you think about it Bush is doing the same to them except he isn't causing himself harm...

Defending themself against a stronger opponent.
The "from God" part is because their religion allows them to defend themselves.

This behavior is not akin to Islam. The reason for this behavior is due to some fanatical clerics that want to convert Islam into a murderous cult for political reasons.
