That doesn't sound normal to me--since you didn't mention any scares he's had in your presence, do you ever put him outside by himself? If not, you really should take him to a vet. You can't at this point wait for a signal--first thing tomorrow (or if there's time for you today) you need to get him examined.

Give it time I agree something has scared it enough that, it just doesn't want to go, possibly try another route to take when you walk him, give him a varity, and stay close to him when walking him also praise him when he goes potty, that will at least will let him know thats the whole reason for the walks, dogs are not stupid, but sometimes like humans some noises can irritate the finemechanisms of the ear drum. be patient. He will come around and remember the praise.

Since it is July 4, has anyone been shooting off firecrackers? July 4 is the one day of the year when more dogs run away from home because they are so frightened by firecrackers. Maybe keep him inside until all the celebrating dies down.

Sounds like he might have been scared by something. You need to be very gentle and comforting, especially tonight with all the fireworks. Stay with him, and when he will come to you on his own terms, see if he will go with you outside. If he still doesn't go potty by tomorrow, you will need to bring him to a vet.

If before your dog does not hesitate to go out, then the your pet might have experienced something undesirable during one of his walks..It might have caused him fear or worse pain..
Maybe if you keep the dog going outside,it might get used again ..it is also an opportunity to find out why the dog is hesitant..

maybe it's the fireworks my dog hates them and has to be around ppl at all times or he'll rip the place apart. and when fireworks stop and he still won't go outside try giving him a treat or something he likes

kill it, then bury it outside, nah im just kidding,
You have to make the dog comfortable going outside, you must do it in small steps, e.g 1st day 5 minutes, 2nd day 10 minutes etc etc... Bring out the toys too.
