THERE IS NO SUCH REQUIREMENT OFFICIALLY... UNOFFICIALLY FOR 2 WEEKS STAY, YOU NEED TO BRING US$500.00

They've never asked me how much money I've got, sometimes they want to see your return ticket.

Cut and paste alert:-

Don Muang Airport has two terminals, helpfully named Terminal One and Terminal Two. Make sure you have your arrival/departure card and your customs form. They should give you these on the plane. The person at passport control isn't interested in you customs form, just give them your passport, arrival/departure card and your return ticket. They probably wont be interested in your ticket either but sometimes they ask.

After passing through go down the escalator to the baggage claim area and stand around for what seems like forever untill you begin to think they've lost your bags. Just about when you are thinking of going to find someone to compalin to your bags will miraculously appear and you can proceed to customs. Here you can relinquish your customs form, which should be satisfyingly crumpled by now, and you are free. Well almost.

Now we need to get downtown. There are buses and trains but I've never used them. Besides if you have that much time on your hands and you are blessed with infinite patience, and you'll need both, then you'll probably have a lot of fun figuring it out for yourself. For the rest of us there are taxis.

Regular taxis are right outside don't pay any attention to the gent that assures you his will be cheaper. I assure you it wont be. Line up outside, when you get to your turn tell the person in the box where you want to go. They will give you a piece of paper with the licence plate of your driver and your destination written on it. Make sure the driver turns his meter on.

There are three ways the driver can go. Ground level doesn't incur any extra cost but is not advisable especially during rush hour. Highway is one level up and costs an additional 40 baht which you will have to give the driver as he goes through the toll booth. Tollway is on the top deck (yes the highway has three levels in some parts). To use that you need to pay 40 baht to get on the highway PLUS 30 baht to get to the Tollway. As far as I'm concerned the tollway is the ONLY way. You should be able to get into town in about half an hour and the meter should read somewhere between 300-400 baht. There is also a 50 baht surcharge for taxis to and from the airport.

There is also the airport limosine service. Look for the blue and yellow signs (to the right as you emerge from terminal one, left from terminal two). Of course this is more expensive, about 700 baht to most downtown destinations. But the cars are more comfortable and the driver wont give you a sales pitch for the kinky do right massage parlour or proudly list all the players in the current Manchester United squad.

Hi, there is no need to see how much money you bring into Thailand. I believe that you need to declare if you have more than US$20,000 with you. Ditto should you be leaving there is a limit of about 50,000bahts you are allowed to bring out of the country. But then again, so far none had made any check on this as far as I can remember.

I've never had them ask either... Last time I arrived at midnight and I had to wake the guy up... He barely looked at my passport

They probably don't want to see because they generally don't ask.
