Because of the close proximity of European countries, most European students are required to learn two languages, if not more. Along with learning the language, the student also learns a great deal about the culture. I would say that cultural education in most European countries far outstrips what we get in America, even though many Europeans come to the States for educational and business opportunities.

Because Americans spend almost 3 times more money on their military than they do on schools. Because while the US military looks for ways to kill people faster and "better", school children are forced to learn about the world from outdated textbooks, in over-crowded and under-facilitated classrooms, from teachers whose salary makes working at MacDonald's seem less time consuming and exhausting for practically the same money. Becuase Europeans see the value of an educated human being over one that's armed to the teeth.

One reason may be they stay with the same teacher through the whole year----even through high school. They do not travel from room to room and change teachers that are so busy they have no time for their high number of students.
Here they start in 5th or 6th grade going from room to room changing teachers. In America music, drama, PE, art, have all been removed from the curriculum depriving students of the balance between acadedemic and non-academic requirements.

I think you need to stop getting your info from watching American movies, TV and talking to fat Midwestern tourists.

It's not exactly true, euros are broader perhaps in their knowledge, but americans, if you'll notice, lead the world in all research, etc. and no one is really more educated than americans. visit any euro country and you'll meet just as many blue collar peeps as in the us, etc. are you eurocentric?
