I took my son to the doctor yesterday and the took blood to check for mono - I won't find out until tomorrow or Thursday. His fever goes for 99 to 103 in like 10 minutes and then 30 minutes later (after I have bathed him with a wash cloth soaked in ice water) it is back to 99. It has been this way 6 days. Today he threw up - which he hadn't done. His throat has been swollen, but for the last two days - I can barely understand him b/c it is so swollen. Does this sound like something you had? I don't think it is the flu.

I guess this is passed by saliva - the only way he could have gotten it is by football practice - he said when some guys forget their water they drink from his.

The baths are from the neck up - with a bowl of ice water - and he is 14 years old. He was tested for strep and it came back negative.

Yup I just had the exactly same symptoms...flu like feelings, swollen glands and white pus on my tonsils, plus the throwing up. I thought i had just a bad flu and not mono because i didnt have the sleepiness that most people find if they have mono. Turns out I had the blood test and it was mono! but dont worry about it, it can be passed from saliva, water bottles are a common culpit. Did you ask your son if he has a girlfriend? Which ever way he got it, he'll be fine after about 2 -4 weeks of rest. I would recommend taking him outa the football program since mono wont get better if you dont go easy on your body. Also mention it to the other mothers with sons on the team, maybe their son has had the same symptoms.

Yeah, i have had mono when i was really little. There are 2 different strains, one worse then the other. It could be mono, the blood test will tell you. Mono lay dormant in your system, so even if he has a high mono count he may not have it, he may have had it when he was younger. It also could be just a bad virus or tonsilitus. I just got over a bad viral infection sort of like your sons, which they thought was mono but it turned out not to be so. The virus i had lasted for about 7 days.

i had mono when i was in h.s.. mono is a virus. some people are carriers and never develop symptoms. i was not so fortunate. i was exhausted all the time, very weak and had a horrible sore throat. my mom thought it was strep throat...(they are similar if i recall correctly). i just had to take antibiotics and i was asleep for about a week. i didn't throw up though. i hope he feels better soon!!

yes i have...not only that but tonsilitis and the flu all at the same time. mono is more or less sleep deprivation, and can sometimes have a fever...however, in my case with everything that i had at the same time, it could be all that combined. one thing you need to ask, was he very tired and week before the fever and throat problem started, or was his fever and throat hurting first? i hope that this helps you...and whatever the outcome is...dont worry...GOD is watching over and can hear your prayers!!!

anti biotics will clear it up the doctor should have just given him pennicillin or amoxicillian and in like two to three days he would have been back to normal usally blood is not taken normal a swabbing of the throat is look at under a microscope to determine the cause of the sorethroat if bateria take antibiotics if viral antiinflamitorys real simple medical procedure take him to a walk in clinic and thell fix him up rather cheaply

If your son is over thirty , you should probably lay off the baths. It's just a little bit too creepy.

No, I have never had Mono, but it sure sounds like no fun, it is very easily transmitted though, I hope he feels better soon!
