well god is vengeful and cruel, it's a proven fact in early history the Christian's forced there beliefs on indigenous peoples of the lands that they visited, the Norse people were forced to give up the beliefs that they new for thousands of years because of the Christians, yes god is vengeful yes god kills on a whim, yes god stands back and lets his so called people suffer and die because he just doesn't care. Odin on the other hand as your name say's, was a vengeful god but he never bothered to hide this fact that if you messed with him he would smite you, just that simple some gods are better than others.
oh and yes i did read the bible cover to cover old testament and new testament, my mother made me she said it would help build character, but all it did was make me see the truth. For those hardcore bible thumping Christians this is just my opinion last time i checked i was still allowed to have one.

its easy to get the impression that God is some omnipotent cop sitting in heaven waiting for us to mess up so he can doom us to hell....organized religion has pretty much pounded that into everyones head.... He is a jealous God.. and he can get angry..and I think even hurt...but if you read the whole bible and its confusing remember this.... He created us to be part of His family...with all the rules and conflicting things in the bible... He only asks that we love Him and each other..and when we chose to defy him and do things our way, He allowed us that and look where we are now.. in the interim we were so removed from Him--that we had no way to get back with Him..so He sent his son to pay our penalties for us...that is not a vengeful and angry God-- that is a creator that loves His creations and wants us to choose to be with Him..

First we need to determine which God we are talking about here. Are you referring to the real God, the unconditionally loving God who we are all a part of? This is the one Jesus was talking about when he said the kingdom of God is within you. The one who is our dearest friend and closest companion.
Or are we talking about the angry little judgmental God that lives on some far off cloud called heaven. The one who seems to be more concerned with our errors than he is with our successes? You know the egocentric needy little God that always wants people to worship him. The one who is always unavailable because he is only a fantasy? You need to specify if you want a real answer

first, i think it's a somewhat western concept in that we like to have everything make sense. God can't both be love and be angry at the same time. in ancient jewish understanding, it was understood that God was both, angry and loving. it didn't matter that it was a seeming contradiction, only that they were both true about God. secondly, have you ever met someone and thought, "man, that person should've been spanked as a child?" it's kinda the same thing. parents love their children, but they still get angry, often for the sake of the child. A child who is completely sheltered from everything doesn't turn out to be very functional. in the same way, God's anger is a spawn of God's love. it's necessary.

I agree as far as the old testament is concerned. Nothing but death and destruction. But all throughout history God is defined by the those in power no matter how immoral they are. Just think of the Spaniards and Portuguese coming to the America's to conquer in the name of the Catholic Church. Killing in the name of the Lord. The only God I know is the something that is always saving my asss.

Um, the MOST times God was angry and vengeful was at his own people, lol, how sad is that? He got so tired of them that he finally gave them up to captivity in Babylon, saying that it had come to the point when they weren't serving Him, He was serving them. Wouldn't that piss you off?

I don't worship that kind of God. I worship a God who is more like a loving parent. He disciplines his children when he needs to, but would much rather not because he wants them to be happy. I could never believe in a God who hated me.
