I have a beautiful blue nosed pitbull and he has a very good temperment. I am wondering if there is a way to find out what your dog's pedigree is so you can get it registered. Could you possibly find out thru DNA testing? My friend who gave me the dog told me that my dog is a registered dog we just don't know through what organization. I just don't have the papers because I got the dog from a friend who got the dog from a friend who he no longer is in touch with. Is there a way you can have someone from where it is registered at track down your dog's papers without having me trace down the original owner? Anyone have answers? Thanks in advance.

If you do not have the "papers", or know the registered name of the parents, you are pretty well out of luck!!! Unless you saw the papers, there may not even be any!!!!!!
DNA testing will do no good. At this point, you get a simple profile back. Parentage CAN be determined, but you need a sample or a profile of the parents to compare it against. DNA at this point cannot even confirm breed. It is still very basic.
Unless you can track down the original owner and find the papers, there is nothing you can do. Even with a microchip, the information contained at the microchip data base is only the owner information. They collect no information on the dog relating to pedigree or parentage.

Hi, You have to know the dogs parents before you can find a pedigree, DNA won't do much good because unless you have this info. they need reg. numbers and names. Unless you can track down the previous owners you really have very little information to work with.. Sorry...

Your dog will not be registered with AKC as they do not register pitts.
I think ABDA is a registry that handles pitts. I have seen them advertised here as ABDA but I am not sure what that means.
You may not be able to get the registration on this dog with out having more information. I think you are going to have to ttrack down the original owner and find out where the dog is registered and what his numbers are,

Pitbulls are not an AKC recognized breed. So the dog would not have a pedigree unless the breeder kept track or registered it with the pitbull club. http://www.pitbullregistry.com/

You need the Papers...The Dogs registered name and your name signed on the paperwork..Its the only way..I dont think Pits are an AKC registered Dog...Perhaps they have another registary hmmm..Pit Club of America Does anyone know?

Do you know if your dog has a micro chip? whether or not, Any vet can scan them and give you the coded number. Then you can make it easier to track. I hope this helps.....Good luck.
Oh try to find what vets he has been to. They may have records.
