You have hit the nail on the head. This is the correct position. If you have occasion to study the Indian philosophy you will find that this is the precise finding of theirs. Unlike in the West where Brunos were burnt at stakes, the Indian began any philosophical treatise with the refutation of atheism. Atheists like Charwak were honoured as sages in thei own right. Buddism is in fact a godless religion. The Indian philosopher Shankara propounded that there are degrees in the understanding of god. Even a tribal offering human sacrifice is not doing it to cater to his taste buds but under a genuine belied that he is propitiating god. A siddha who aspired to know god only through meditation is basically no different from him. Both have set their sights high.

Young lady with the sad avatar face.....religion is what you make of it. The only GOOD news is that you have taken the steps to learn ,even by doing something as simple as asking the question you have. You are curious but mad....becuase you dont understand. Nobody really does, and those that claim they do are usually fake.
My Catholic up bringing should forbid me of saying such things to you but, just look inside yourself and be the best person you can, BUT, realize that sometimes devine intervention, wheather you asked for it or not, has happened.
You would not look for answers if you didnt have the burning question in you. In my opinion, this is a critical time, becuase this is the time that one could get lost in "the easy way out" ie. not believing, and not taking the time to research.
Nobody is asking you to sacrifice your life, or turn your whole body over to something that you dont stand for. But just be inquisitive, learn the options beofre saying that its a bunch of bullshit. ie. nobody is really cramming stuff down your throuat. I have had amny friends that have done the research and decided that being Mormon, or Jahovahs Witnesses are the right answers for them.
Rest and relax for a few days, but set aside time in those days to look in yourself. Think back to all the times that "****" happened and you thought to yourself "NO WAY" and see if there was any other answer than sometype of intervention.
What you have to remember is that 75% of religion, prays to the same God, just in a different way. And most religions are tolerant, accepting or loving of other religions and faiths.
You cant expect the answers to be given to you on Yahoo. Everything in life that could involve your entire life requires a least a little bit of work. This may sound gay, but if you look for it, you will find the right answers and peace.

Yes. I agree that people have a right to believe what they want. So what are you on about? Did someone tell you you couldn't be a certain religion or what? I haven't heard any one cramming any 'right' or otherwise religion down anyone else's throat.
If you're saying that some people say their religion is the 'right' one, so what? Like you say, people have a right to believe what they want to, and they have a right to say so. So if people want to believe that their religion is the right one (and who would be a religion if they didn't think that?) then it's ok for them to say that. That shouldn't offend you or affect you in any way.

I tend to agree with what you are saying. But the Bible says there are many ways that seem right to a man and in the end is destruction. But I have trouble believing that people who believe in God and make an effort to live pure lives and follow commandments which are pretty much common to most major religions wont have the chance to be in heaven. Know what I mean?

First off let me say that I am jewish. The jewish religion teaches that is not necessarly organized religion that leads to salvation. If you are a good person with a good soul and live by your heart you will have a place in the land of hashem (g-d). There is a line in the song hope by r.e.m. that can probably tell you what you want to hear. "if you want to trust religion and you know its alegorybut the people who are followers make up their own stories". Basically it means it does not matter what bible you believe in or what g-d but that you follow what you know in your heart is right

I agree with you. One thing that I often tell Christians who think that I need to go to their church (or whatever) who get extra pushy with me is that Jesus wasn't a pushy man. He invited all to follow him, but if someone didn't, he loved them anyway...he did not condemn them. He led by example...quietly! So, WWJD? He'd back off!!! I also think that every religion, Christian or not, has two things in common - the Golden Rule and that there is a higher power. I think that God allowed there to be so many religions because there are so many personalities and that each of us would find our paths back to him!

Imposing ones religion is an act of insecurity. Only those with complete confidence in the truth can afford to accept another's ignorance. People argue because they feel a victory in debate is a point toward the credability of their beliefs.

There is a frantic, preachy, self-righteous quality to many of the religious-themed postings that just IRRITATES people. It's fun to tell them off. It's unfortunate, but intelligent, erudite, religious people aren't the ones doing the illiterate, fanatical rants.
The fanatics are fair game--they are walking punchlines, and responsible for some of the biggest laughs I've had, since I started Answering!

Yes everyone has a right to whatever they want to believe in. I do not see a reason to get upset because you know when you ask a question here you will get a huge arrays of opinions.

of course i have an opinion, silly girl. the problem is, that people try to make others into what they are. for one reason or another. personally, i think it's because they think they have nothing better to do. the same can be said for those who read a question that goes against their religious out look. they just want something to talk about or b*tch about, or something of the like.
