Go to your local, library where they keep the history of the town and its happenings. If you know when it was built, check the records to see who built it. Usually that will give you some history too. Don't be afraid to ask for help from the librarian. They are always willing and anxious to help.

Library is good and ask if the city has a GPS system. You can enter various things and have them show on the grid. Check with the police department, your beat officer. Our police email a list of activities at various addresses, (such as car jackings and assaults). Of course, no names or personal details are given, but it does tell you where you do not want to be after dark.
