Wow, there seem to be alot of variations on this.
I've been teaching this to my students for more than 10 years and I teach it exactly like the first answer.
You get alot of variations when you learn Japanese from non Japanese person. Alot of the time you end up learning their interpretation.
Just because your Sensei says it's this way doesn't mean he can't be wrong.
Go and look it up or ask someone fluent in Japanese.
