I need to gain some abs and arm muscles mainly because I'm a weaker player on the basketball team and the coach said to gain some muscle. Right now I'm 5 feet 3.5 inches and weigh 118 pounds.

I dont know if this would work in 6 weeks but first u should ask your doctor but i myself would refer to the local libary or websites that show special and effective ways to gain muscle, remember to start with small weights and build up to an average of 3kg maybe. Try eating energy rich foods and heaps of fruit and vegetables....this really does help as they contain iron and much more!

Eat healthy foods like Joselito suggested, and yes, lift weights. And ask your coach about proper technique so you don't hurt yourself. Do less reps using heavy weights, ones very challenging. Try doing push-ups, they strengthen the entire body at the same time.

Btw, short people can play basketball well too. When I was a teenager, I was 4'11" and could get down with the best of 'em.

Go guy!

You're too young to be thinking like this, however, here's my adive on the subject:

Avoid fatty foods. Not to say that fat is bad, but too much will weigh you down.
Eat foods high in protein to help build up your muscles without building up the fat.
Eat food high in complex carbohydrates to give you energy.
Exercise outdoor daily, both cardio and muscular.
Avoid sweets. A treat now and then is fine, but don't overdo it.

Eat fish instead of meat, eat plenty of vegetables and fruits instead of burgers and fatties. Then exercise by walking, running or swimming. The muscles could be gained inside the gym by lifting weights. Good luck in your endeavour.

The traditional method has been a combination of plenty of outdoor exercise, lots of sports, and plenty of protien. Watch out for things like sweets or extras on macaroni salad; go for the meat, fish, milk and eggs. Think buff!

Try free weights and increase your food to twice what you eat now. Be sure to increase your reps and wieghts when it becomes easy for you. Good luck!
