You could have put too much on and overdosed him. I know someone who put too much flea powder on their cat and it killed it.

Flea medications can do a world of harm. You need to call your vet, bring the package, and find out what is ailing your cat.
Also, treat your home and keep your cat inside. By removing the exposure to fleas, you will eliminate the fleas.

i agree with almost all answers - i once bought the over the counter flea spot and my cat of 14 years got real ill. i took him to the vet the next day . the vet said its not the ingredient in the med that kills the fleas that he had a reaction to but the propellant used in the med that caused the problem.

Over the counter flea medications can be very harmful. At the vet hospital I work at we have seen cats coming in for skin reactions to siezures from applying theses products. I applied to my cat once hartz flea product to stop her from scratching from fleas and she ended scratching herself raw from a reaction to the product. Only use prescibed treatments such as frontline they are more expensive but much safer.

My friend is a vet tech and she told me NOT to give my cats the Hartz flea medication from the stores. She said that they've had a few cats die from it. She told me always get the medication from the vet...like Frontline or Advantage. She said they work better anyway.

I have more experience with dogs than cats, but I know that my dog is very sensitive to many things, including medications. I'm assuming that, like humans and dogs, Chadwyck could either be allergic to an ingredient in the medication or have some sort of sensitivity to it.
I think you're best off talking to Chadwyck's vet about it.
Good luck!

my cats cant have anything to do with hart products. My Brothers Hymilayan died from the products flea and tick meds and it broke his heart. So any reaction you get from flea and tick meds is lethal and should be check out by a vet ASAP!!

It could be a reaction from the meds.. an allergy of some such.. Or depending on what kind you used, he may have licked the meds and became sick from that. You should probably take him to the vet.

YES! Especially if you are using an over the counter product. My former roommate almost killed my pug with that stuff once while I was out of town. The vetrinarian told me later that it is quite common and often fatal for dogs and cats. Of course, that was 24 hours and $600.00 later. (Not to mention the awful waiting to see if he would be okay.) Call your vet ASAP.
