I had planeed to buy Gouldian Finches to put it in but I've been told they are too delicate to survie here in Ireland. Could anyone recommend a type of bird that is not all that common and is resonably easy to breed and hardy. I do not want ot get common birds like budgies or canaries ect......and I'd like somthing that is colorfull and lively. I'm willing to spend quiet a bit of money on getting a few pairs of birds but not a rediculous amount.......could anyone reccomend a particular type of bird that you think would be enjoyable to keep? A man I know suggested lovebirds and I'm thinking they might be a good choice, but I'd love some more suggestions....thanks.

My girlfriend has two outdoor aviaries (in Ireland) and she has lovebirds in one and in the other she has:
Ringneck parakeets
Golden mantle rosella
budgies
Red rump parakeet
cockatiel
They all seem to get along well . The ringneck parakeets are stunning and are very interesting to breed because of all the colour varieties available; they are also highly sought after and you shouldn't have a problem selling offspring. Her cockatiels breed very well as do her red rumps. Rosellas are quarelsome and you can't have more than a pair in an aviary. contact me if you'd like.

You can keep almost any bird out side provided it has been reared in the uk and is hardened to our weather I keep birds and spent a small fortune installing heating and lighting for the winter
only to see the cockatiels out in the snow so good luck enjoy your birds in your case it would be a good idea to give them some for of heat electric is the safest and most controllable.
I want an African grey but cant afford one so if any one reads this please help me find a re homer

I live in virginia, and i raise a variety of lovebirds. The outside aviary is 8ft high 8ft wide and 15ft long. They stay out year long, we get weather as low as 20's in winter. I cover them in heavy clearn plastic and put red heat lights on them ( they cant see the red, so they have normal photo period) They do wonderfully. Lovebirds are a joy to raise as they easy keepers and if you want rarity, you have to dive into the genetics of it all. I raise some very unusual mutations. They make great pets.

Most tropical birds, especially smaller ones such as lovebirds, can't survive outside in a place like Ireland. Temperatures lower than 65 degrees can be fatal to them. Consider species that are native to places that have climates more similar to your own.

You can "imagine" anything you want but that doesn't make it true. I can imagine I have fluffy pink fur and wings, but if I step out of the 3rd floor window and try to fly, I'll find out I can't in a second. God owes us nothing. He has given us everything we have and are: life, a body, a planet to live on...and, btw, the possibility of knowing Him personally through Jesus Christ. We do our best because we choose to, not for any eventual "reward." If you're doing stuff for applause, reward, or recognition, that's not altruistic. It's horse-trading.

How about Ducks?

Goldfinch's or maybe not as they are native birds and it would probably be frowned on.

but most of the foreign finch species are colourful and small zebra finch's and your own choice of Gouldian are easy to cater for and hardy.
